Damn, that was a terrible, robotic performance. He should fire the PR people he hired (assuming he followed their instructions). It was like the paper he was using said:
“To my friends, family, and fans..[count to 3, choke up, look down, count to 2, deep breath] I am SO sorry” and later on it read “Thank you [camera pans to Mom, Mom stands up, hug her for 30 seconds, go down the row, handshake, hug, exit stage right while putting hand on your head]
Please note that my last comment means I really care what he did. He’s a great golfer and that’s why I watch him, not because he’s a saint. I could care less what he does in his personal life, because that’s between him and his wife and family. I was just commenting on how bad I thought he did in the speech.
Yeah, it was one of the most generic speeches I’ve ever heard. TOtally stage-managed.
But that’s apparently all he was advised to do, and all he needs to do for now.
Guess what, though?
I predicted in the weeks after this story broke, that though he may return to golf, his game would never be the same, that he’d just he’d just have to take his place among the other two dozen top pro golfers.
I still hold by that prediction.
With or without the approval or respect felt from his pro
‘friends’, he won’t be able to recapture his mojo.
Once that starts to happen, I think he’ll go on a slow downward spiral and have to retire very prematurely.
Don’t forget that as that process is going on, every other pro golfer that’s been beaten by him, is going to work very hard to win the tourneys Tiger Woods has been winning, and if my prediction is correct, it will be a bit easier for them.
It was more about "not ruling out a return to golf in 2010". I'm sure that his sponsors heard nothing else!!!
I also love the golf announcers saying things like, "the PGA is nothing without Tiger!".
That is insulting to all the other PGA players and their fans!
