I am looking for a video that I saw here a few years back about the different forms of government. I had it in my favorites list on my now crashed computer. It went through the differences in democracy, republic, oligarchy and even mentioned anarchy and how they could go in a cycle. I know this isn't very specific but if anyone knows what I am talking about and can help, I would appreciate it. I need it for my homeschool writing class. Thank you!

I’m going public today with a secret I’ve kept for a year—my husband and I are homeschooling our children. I never dreamed we would become homeschoolers. I wanted my kids integrated and socialized. I wanted their eyes opened to the realities of the world. I wanted the values we taught at home put to the test in the real world. But necessity drove me to consider homeschooling for my 2nd and 4th graders, and so I timidly attended a home school parent meeting last spring. Surprisingly it was full of doctors, lawyers, former public school teachers, and other professionals. These...

I am collecting an assortment of outrageous Obama quotes to try to convince people not to vote for him. Please help by posting one. I would like to have enough to post one online everyday until election day. Post quotes that are relatively current either since he has been president or running for president and if possible post a link to audio/video. Thanks for your help!!! So far I have these: 1. “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.” 2.“If the political winds shift in an ugly direction, I will side with the Muslims.”...

I have heard several people say they are leaving Carbonite because they dropped their advertising on Rush. They want to go to Mozy. I have heard that Mozy is a left leaning company that supports gay marriage and abortion. Does anyone know an alternative company to suggest. Thanks in advance!

Over the last decade more parents are choosing to have their children taught at home as opposed to in a traditional school environment. According to a study conducted by the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), during the spring 2010 there were a little more than 2 million K-12 homeschool students in the U.S. A driving factor behind homeschooling becoming a more accepted way of learning is largely due to the accessibility of curriculum on the Internet, according to Rebecca Kochenderfer, senior editor of Homeschool.com and author of Homeschooling and Loving it! “[Children] can study with some of the best...

In her first address to West Virginia’s joint standing committee on education this week, incoming West Virginia State Superintendent of Schools Jorea Marple criticized homeschoolers. According to a West Virginia homeschooler who posted to an Internet group, Speaker pro tem and Delegate Ron Fragale told her that Mrs. Marple said “West Virginia homeschoolers need more oversight, better standards, better evidence of progress; homeschoolers have too much flexibility.” Delegate Fragale told the homeschooler that “he’s not sure why Mrs. Marple is so negative about homeschooling. Perhaps there are some new board members who don’t have a good impression of it. However,...

A Tennessee father told his son’s school board they need to ban a biology textbook because of it's ‘bias’ against Christians. Kurt Zimmermann is appealing a Knoxville school district's decision to keep the book. He says the textbook used in his son’s biology class cites creationism as a "biblical myth." According to reports, he requests, 'non-biased' textbooks be used. In his words, the current textbook's phrasing misleads, belittles and discourages students in believing in creationism and calls the Bible a myth.

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends: Delegate Daryl Cowles has introduced several bills that would protect families from unreasonable government intrusion into the family. One of these bills, House Bill 4480, provides that prosecuting attorneys have the right and responsibility to represent the public interest in protecting abused and neglected children when their position conflicts with the position of the Department of Health and Human Resources. If passed, this bill would help strengthen the parent-child relationship and protect the right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children. However, with only a few days remaining in the session,...

I just watched the movie "The Widow's Might" with my family and I wanted to give it a recommendation. We rented it from Netflix. It was a made by a group of homeschooling families for a film festival. From the Netflix cover "Outraged that exorbitant property taxes may drive widow Grace Jackson from her home, young moviemakers John and Cameron set out to win a major film festival by making a musical Western that draws attention to her plight. An adventure comedy rooted in the teaching of Jesus Christ.... The movie was well done with beautiful music and great cinematography....

Your action is needed to defeat an attempt by the governor to increase the age of compulsory school attendance. Senate Bill 343 would increase the age of compulsory school attendance from 16 to 17. This would subject homeschool families to government regulation for an additional year.

HB 371 would repeal the terms “abused”, “neglected”, and “dependent” children in major sections of Ohio’s civil code and create a new category – “a child in need of protective services” This shift in core terms in state law will affect every Ohio family with minor children, because it will clearly broaden the net cast by child protective service agencies to justify an increase in the state’s intervention into the home. Proposed R.C. 2151.03 defines a "child in need of protective services" to be one in which ONE act or omission of a parent (or guardian / legal custodian) results...

While the number of people in academia who are openly critical of homeschooling are few, every now and again an article will be published in a university periodical which attacks homeschooling. The critics in academia come from the far left of the political spectrum. One such critic, Robin L. West of the Georgetown University Law Center, recently published an article titled “The Harms of Homeschooling,” which appeared in the Summer/Fall 2009 issue of the University of Maryland’s Philosophy and Public Policy Quarterly. Before we answer the specific charges Ms. West makes against homeschooling we’d just like to give you a...

"Thank you for letting me know of your concerns about health care legislation moving through Congress. I understand - and share - your support for our existing employer based system for workers and Medicare for retirees. Unfortunately, (I AGREE WITH YOU BUT I KNOW BEST FOR YOU) that system is coming under such large and growing strains that its long standing success at giving Americans access to the best health care in the world will be seriously threatened in the coming years. Already, far too many of us fall through the cracks. In my Congressional district alone, 117,000 West Virginians...

Friday, August 28, 2009 BRAVE NEW SCHOOLS The insanity of the right Exclusive: David d'Escoto asks why conservatives continue to turn kids over to the left Posted: August 29, 2009 1:00 am Eastern Most likely you've heard Einstein's definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Nowhere is this more obvious today than with political and religious conservatives, the so-called right. What do I mean? Next month the right will send millions of their own children to public schools that are literally controlled by the left – meaning that it is only the...
