Our reps hear and understand us but they know best (response letter from US Representative)
Personal Letter by mail ^ | September 30 2009 | Alan B Mollohan

Posted on 10/04/2009 12:38:14 PM PDT by christianhomeschoolmommaof3

"Thank you for letting me know of your concerns about health care legislation moving through Congress. I understand - and share - your support for our existing employer based system for workers and Medicare for retirees. Unfortunately,

(I AGREE WITH YOU BUT I KNOW BEST FOR YOU)

that system is coming under such large and growing strains that its long standing success at giving Americans access to the best health care in the world will be seriously threatened in the coming years.

Already, far too many of us fall through the cracks. In my Congressional district alone, 117,000 West Virginians lack health insurance. Even those with insurance are toutinely denied coverage becasue of pre existing conditions or face backruptcy when a catastrophic illness exceeds theri coverage limit. Costs for businesses and individuals have skyrocketed, with increases in premiums putpacing growth in wages by three to one.. IF WE DO NOTHING, the annual cost of health insurance remiums for the average family in West Virginia is estimated to more than double to $25,000 by 2016.

(FEAR MONGERING)

We need to fix these problems in a way that also preserves the basic structure of our existing systme. I am optimistic that the final bill will strike that balance.

(NAIVE)

One example of that balancing act is the proposed new "insurance exchange" which would preserve and even add to the choices individulas have to select theri own health plans and their own doctors.

(Yeah sure)

An important element of the exchange is the so called public option, which would be exactly that-an option. (FOR NOW MAYBE) No one would be forced on to that plan - indeed, it would not even be made available to most people who already have existing employer provided plans. It would instead offer a basic benefit package to persons who currently lack insurance and it would contorl costs by providing increased competition in the insurance market.

(YEAH RIGHT, IT WILL SHUT DOWN THE FREE MARKET AND USHER IN A SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM)

Another critical feature of the legislation is its protection of Medicare. It would not cut benefits to seniors. In fact, costs for seniors would decrease most notably through the elimination of the so called "donut hole" in Medicare Part D.

(YOU MEAN THE ELIMINATION OF LIFE SAVING MEDICAL CARE TO SENIORS?)

Eliminating the donut hole would save seniors who require expensive medications thousands of dollars each year. Finally the enacted legislation must not increase the debt. The President and both parties in Congress agree on that point.

(IN THE WORDS OF JOE WILSON, "YOU LIE".)

I do appreciate your sharing your thoughts with me,

(YOU JUST WON'T LISTEN BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT IS BEST)

and I hope to hear from you on this or other issures in the future. Sincerely, Alan B. Mollohan

Don’t you just love the “us” he was talking about in his statement...as if he had to tolerate the same medical care/treatment we poor folk put up with.

I must say I am so tired of our Congressmen trying to explain away our fears and doubts about what they are doing. They are there to represent us and DO WHAT WE WANT not do what they think is best. Their hubris is condescending and infuriating. I say all of this as a resident of WV who has no health insurance and a chronic medical condition. I would rather owe tooth and nail in a FREE society than to have ANYTHING in a socialist state. It is way past time that the government got out of the “CHARITY” business. ITS NOT YOUR TO GIVE. IF YOU WANT TO PROVIDE AN UNINSURED PERSON WITH INSURANCE DO IT WITH YOUR OWN MONEY. YES I AM YELLING! AND NO I DON’T FEEL BETTER!

Further proof that if one cannot create anything, improve anything, or - for that matter - hold a job associated with a profitable business, they can always go into politics.

There is no lower place in the septic tank than the bottom layer reserved for politicians.

Our republic cannot last long if we do not ensure that idiots are kept from public office. Of course, this will involve purging roughly 98% of our existing “public serpents”.

Truly I am sick of them all. This is typical of ALL the responses I have received. “I know you are concerned but BLAH BLAH BLAH we have it under control BLAH BLAH BLAH. Don’t worry we will take care of it BLAH BLAH BLAH”
It is maddening!

The must all write from the same template, because my congresscritter sent me a similiar canned response when I voiced concerns about Obamacare. You notice nothing was mentioned about:

1) Is a blatent takeover of 1/7th of the US economy even constitutionsl?

2) How will this be paid for? more taxes?
----- a) Assuming the answer is yes, what happens in a downturn like the one we're experiencing when tax revenues go down?

3) Without getting control of our open borders, whats to prevent millions of illegals from overwhelming the system? ---- Please spare me the line that illegals won't be covered, we all know that they'll be given amnesty and even if they aren't, SCOTUS ruled in the case Pyler vs Doe that any government benifit such as education MUST be granted to illegals.

4) What about tort reform? Why has that been blocked from this legislation?

5) Why has the importation of drugs from Canada been blocked in this legislation?

6) Why has Congressman John Fleming's ammendment requiring congress to be under any plan they adopt been rejected?

These are the questions I responded with when I got the canned letter. I'm sure people have many more.

Group think is all they know. I am not suprised you got a similar letter. I responded to this letter. In one part, I said I would have to abandon my common sense to believe that this healthcare bill wouldn’t raise the national debt. They don’t want to answer tough questions. They want to smooth over our concerns so we will sit down and shut up. Then they will do what they “know” is best. Their arrogance is what really gets under my skin. They need a little lesson in humility next election.

I know that you already know that our system of “representative” government, in its present form, is NOT the one that our Founding Fathers put in place all those eons ago. It was meant to be citizens chosen by their fellow citizens to act for a certain length of time as representative of those fellow citizens, as public servants performing their public duty by representing the wishes and views of their fellow citizens who sent them there.

It is now a protected and privileged class of “super-citizens”, a career choice mostly chosen by people ambitious for power, perks, and money, to rule over we regular citizens while pretending to give a d*mn about the country, if they’re not actively against it.

Yes I do realize it and I also realize that something needs to be done about it.

What to do, that is the question. “Vote the buzzards out” doesn’t seem to be working, every time we vote one flock out, another flock of the same gets in, because it looks to me like no honest patriot would even want to go to Washington these days, or else if they start out honest with the intention of just doing their representative duty, they succumb to “Potomac fever” either willingly, or because you just can’t be an honest regular citizen in Washington and last. It’s the way the system has evolved over the decades-if you don’t play along with the rest, you don’t last.

That sentence may eligible for Guinness in the “longest run-on sentence” category.

What to do, is the question alot of Americans are asking themselves right now. I pray we find an answer. As for the longest run on semtence, you obviously haven’t had a conversation with my 8 year old. ;)

"Pray" being the operative word. It gives me peace to know that my future is NOT in the hands of any government, not even my American one. I know we're not to be so heavenly-minded that we're no earthly good, but it's a great relief to know that when the mess really hits the fan, we Christians need not be dismayed, because we'll be OUT of here and headed to our real home where the forces of evil can't touch us, AND we'll be coming back with the real King when He inaugurates His reign of the perfect government.

LOL re your 8 year old. I'd bet he/she is one smart cookie :)
