BOSTON – Paul Benedict, the actor who played the English neighbor Harry Bentley on the sitcom "The Jeffersons," has died. He was 70. Benedict was found dead Monday on Martha's Vineyard and his brother, Charles, said authorities were still investigating the cause of death. Benedict began his acting career in the 1960s in the Theatre Company of Boston, alongside such future stars as Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino. Benedict went on to appear in a number of movies, including a role as the oddball director in "The Goodbye Girl" with Richard Dreyfuss. But he was mainly known...

A family of Barack Obama supporters awakened this morning to find a burned 6-foot cross on the front lawn of their home in northern Warren County, police said. The charred cross was partly wrapped with a homemade congratulatory banner that declared "President Obama Victory '08" and had been stolen from the lawn the night before, police said.

MOSCOW (AP) - Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has described U.S. President-elect Barack Obama as "young, handsome and even tanned." Berlusconi appeared to be joking about America's first black president Thursday at a news conference following talks with Russia's president. The Italian leader has a history of making impolitic remarks. He was asked by a reporter about the prospect for U.S.-Russian relations, which have plummeted to Cold War-levels in recent months. Berlusconi said the relative youth of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, 43, and Obama, 47, should make it easier for Moscow and Washington to work together. Then he said, smiling:...

I wonder if everyone'll still revere Obama then.

Good News: 1. We're no longer a racist country. 2. Nothing will be better for conservatism than his election. Bad News: 1. More terrorist attacks 2. $5+ gas returns 3. Worse recession.

He directed one of the highest-grossing, most talked-about films in movie history: "Deep Throat." Then Gerard Damiano lived out his final years in Fort Myers quietly, enjoying theatre, attending art openings, appearing at charitable events and reveling, especially, in the accomplishments of his two children.

WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin and her husband have pieced together a uniquely Alaskan income that reached comfortably into six figures even before she became governor, capitalizing on valuable fishing rights, a series of land deals and a patchwork of other ventures to build an above-average lifestyle.

Though the case is closed on China’s Olympic gold medalists, the age controversy in gymnastics is far from over. Documents confirm all six members of China’s gold medal team at the Beijing Games were old enough to compete, the International Gymnastics Federation said Wednesday. But it wants more answers from two members of China’s 2000 squad— Dong Fangxiao and Yang Yun—saying it “does not consider the explanations and evidence provided to date in regards to these athletes as satisfactory.” It also is moving forward with a licensing system that would serve as proof of age for a gymnast’s entire career....

If they trust Obama less, how the heck can he win? I just can't understand why today's a bad day for Republicans. Now all they have to do know is go nuclear.

All jokes aside, I think it's too late to accept McCain's offer to postpone. I dunno. I think McCain should announce immediately that Palin will debate Barry-that way, if Barry backs out, it'll look like HE'S afraid of the Barracuda.
-
I don't think so. Right away, the Left is trying to portray her as Cheney in a dress. This'll backfire, hopefully. She's able to connect with the populace in ways Cheney could not. McCain and Palin need to learn right away-don't cozy up with the news media. I really believe that, if Palin plays her cards right and sticks to her guns, she will be the first female President. I think a future Palin / Romney ticket would do fine.

Does Bush really want us to drop into a deep recession? I have no idea why he has not issued an Executive Order and directed the lifting of the ban on drilling. I would think most American would support him. He should go before the nation and state his case. "Look, you wanna pay ten bucks a gallon? Do ya, punks!!!!"

Obama's gonna spend over 500 million? WTF?! I dunno, even if he spends a billion, how the heck is America gonna vote for this doofus when they find out he's gonna raise the price at the pump and be Carter redux? I think too, too much of Obama could help McCain.

Really, their silence is deafening. The first question each of these mothers has to answer at each debate is: How will you prevent another 9/11? Second: Is the price of gas gonna go up under you? I think the last thing most Americans need right now is Uncle Sam fishing more bills out of their battered wallets. Unfortunately, Obongo and Grandpa McMunster (whom I'm voting-grrrr-for) will pose threats to our coffers, with Barry's plans the more pernicious. This has got to be the worst general election cycle in a generation.

BERLIN (Reuters) - The United States is already in a recession and it will be longer as well as deeper than many people expect, U.S. investor Warren Buffett said in an interview published in German magazine Der Spiegel on Saturday. He said the United States was "already in recession" and added: "Perhaps not in the sense that economists would define it" with two consecutive quarters of negative growth. "But the people are already feeling the effects," said Buffett, the world's richest man. "It will be deeper and last longer than many think." But he said that won't stop him from...
