Army has disciplined 20 cadets for promoting underage drinking and has self-reported a football recruiting violation to the NCAA stemming from an incident that took place earlier this year, according to a report by The Gazette of Colorado Springs. According to documents obtained by The Gazette, Army treated recruits to a party, dinner with female cadets, cash from boosters and VIP treatment on a party bus that included cheerleaders and a police escort in January.

On Dec. 15, shortly after Army football’s 12th consecutive loss to the U.S. Naval Academy, the superintendent of West Point, Lt. Gen. Robert Caslen , announced that he was considering institutional changes to build a winning program. “When America puts its sons and daughters in harm’s way, they do not expect us to just ‘do our best’ . . . but to win,” he wrote. “Nothing short of victory is acceptable. . . . Our core values are Duty, Honor, Country. Winning makes them real.”

As a student of history I was interested in the new Beck book Miracles and Massacres and was wondering if anyone had read it yet and if it was good history.

Game day has come. A place for Old Grads and fans to talk trash and keep up with the game.

It's that time of the year again. A place for grads and fans to get ready for the game and talk trash.

Today in 1955 was the opening day of Disneyland with an hour long special on ABC (attached). Ronald Reagan is one of the narrators. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuzrZET-3Ew

I know that the real focus on Gettysburg will be next year with the 150th anniversary then but I found a Hard Rock band that put together a "Rock Opera" of the battle and figured the 149th was a good enough time to show it. Days 2 and three to follow.

Alright it's that time of year again. Here's a place for old grads of both schools and fans of the game to gather, talk about past games, and talk a little trash. Side note: Over the past years these threads have gotten a little Navy heavy. Come on Army folks, I know there has to be some of you on FR.

WEST POINT, N.Y. — U.S. Military Academy officials were investigating Friday how an apparently healthy, athletic 18-year-old West Point cadet died during a land navigation exercise. Cadet Jacob D. Bower of Fairmont, W.Va., was found unresponsive Thursday by fellow cadets in a largely wooded area used for training. Attempts to revive Bower were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m. The incident and cause of death are under investigation. Temperatures in the Hudson Valley were in the 90s Thursday, but West Point's Lt. Col. Sherri Reed said it was not clear if high temperatures were a factor.

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan — Forget the drones, laser-guided bombs and eye-popping satellite imagery. For the average soldier, the most significant change to modern warfare might just boil down to instant chatting.

Alright it's that time of year again. Just thought I'd provide a space for "old grads" from both schools to do a little trash talking leading up to and including the game. Graduates of both academies fondly remember the festivities of the week prior to the game.

Just thought with the game tomorrow and the Cadets/Midshipmen making their way to Phili today I'd create a thread for old grads from each side to root for their team.

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Rich Ellerson has Army playing option football again and the initial results were promising. Kingsley Ehie ran for two touchdowns and Army beat Eastern Michigan 27-14 on Saturday night as the new Black Knights' coach became the first to win his debut with the academy in 18 years. The Black Knights rushed for 308 yards as Patrick Mealy, who rushed for 109 yards on five carries, and Jameson Carter also had touchdowns runs.

College senior Raymond Vetter gets up at dawn to fit in a run or a workout. Then, hair shorn neatly and pants pressed, he marches into breakfast, where he sits in an assigned seat. After six hours of instruction in such subjects as Japanese literature and systems engineering, two hours of intramural sports and another family-style meal with underclassmen, Vetter rushes to return to his room by the 11:30 p.m. curfew. Most college students, we think, do not march to meals. A goodly number of them drink into the wee hours, duck morning classes and fail to hit the gym...

A good article in Newsweek regarding the mindset of some of the Army's newest officers.

BEDFORD, TX -- If this story sounds familiar, it's because it's happened nine different times. Last Friday night was the latest incident. Someone is being unusually persistent in trying to prevent a Bedford man who happens to be a veteran from flying the American flag in front of his house. The relentless thief or thieves took down 87 year old Archie Mayes' flag along with the pole, and then took it a step further --- the thief used the pole to break a window in his workshop but didn't take anything. Mayes set up a video camera last October after...
