We had our reception at the church hall, catered by the church’s Ladies Aid.
Ours was similar. Small church, church ladies did the reception. Hubby worked with a lady that also worked at a bakery on weekends. She baked the cake as a wedding gift. My aunt worked at a bridal shop so she made my wedding dress as a gift.
My older sister was my bridesmaid and I got her dress off the sale rack at Macy’s for $10. The most expensive thing was the flowers and that bill was about $100 at the local florist. Our HS band director was a photographer and he did a great job with the pictures (for free). After almost 50, we have a framed picture still on the wall.
It was a sweet wedding and I’m so glad I didn’t burden my parents with a demand for an expensive wedding (they would have laughed in my face anyway-—we were poorer than the mice at the church).
