I just had a thought.... Teddy Roosevelt was the Bull Moose. Joe Lieberman should be the Mongoose. He looks a lot like a 'rat, but at least he tries to kill the snakes known as terrorists.

Why don’t liberals understand the freedom-crushing nature of campaign finance reform? How come it is easy for liberals to see the First Amendment interest in other overheated free speech issues, such as reporting on the classified operations of the National Security Agency or displaying Robert Mapplethorpe nudes, but when it comes to political discourse during an election season, they’re all for government restraints? This is the same question that famed First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams raises in his autobiographical book Speaking Freely: Trials of the First Amendment. In one chapter, Abrams recounts a speech he gave to a Unitarian church...

After spending 10 days in London with friends who were outspoken about their disdain for President Bush's policies, Berns Rothchild came home wishing she had a way to show the world she didn't vote for him. "I sort of felt ashamed, and didn't really want to be associated with being an American," said Rothchild, who lives in New York City and voted for John Kerry. Her mother had a suggestion: bracelets, inspired by the Lance Armstrong Foundation's popular "LIVESTRONG" bands, that would signal opposition to Bush. Thousands of miles away, two women in Idaho had the same idea. So did...

ABC's "World News Tonight" hadn't finished Monday before Gainesville resident Scott Camil's phone started ringing. Friends were calling to see if he had seen a report about newly disclosed information that the FBI had kept tabs on Sen. John Kerry during his anti-war days in the early 1970s. The report included a passing reference to and a circa-1973 photo of Camil, who had met Kerry at national meetings of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. Citing Gerald Nicosia's 2001 book, "Home to War," the ABC report said that at a national meeting of the anti-war group, Camil had floated the idea...

From all I'm reading, the central question surrounding Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ is whether or not Gibson is portraying the Jews as responsible for the death of Jesus and whether or not this is anti-Semitism. I have a different question, if you'll pardon it coming from a non-Christian who's not seen the movie and isn't terribly familiar with the Christian Bible: So what? I understand history. I understand that blaming Jews for the death of Jesus was a cause of anti-Semitism in the past. Heck, my grandparents and great-grandparents came to America, fleeing that mindset. I understand...

AR-RAMADI, Iraq -- A letter to his wife by a Florida National Guard soldier simply intended to express his belief in America's mission in Iraq. But the soldier didn't realize that a show business personality would latch on to his letter and make a political statement. Spc. Joshua Madsen, 26, of Indian Harbor Beach, serves as a rifleman with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry. Stationed at a base called The Combat Outpost in the eastern section of Ar-Ramadi, one of the toughest parts of the Sunni Triangle of Iraq, he has dodged explosions and bullets on patrol. "I know...

I'm in a debate on another forum. If I'm anticipating correctly, I need some on-line pictures from left-wing rallies in the U.S. where protesters had signs that equated the Star of David to the swastika or carried a mock Israeli flag with a swastika in place of the Star of David.

May 09. 2003 6:01AM SPEAKING OUT Hats off to our young soldiers By EDWARD F. ROBERTS Today's young people are every bit as good as their predecessors. In the 28 years I've spent in a public school classroom, I have spent too much of that time listening to so-called adults remind me over and over about how "different" these students are from the way young people used to be. Of course, I knew all this was total nonsense. But, since I've been admonished all my life not to argue with stupid people, I usually just nod and keep my mouth...

Kerry Still on Defensive By Mike Glover, Associated Press Writer April 07, 2003 Democratic candidate says democracy gives him right to assail Bush CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Presidential candidate John Kerry said Monday that democracy affords rival Democrats the right to criticize President Bush even with the nation at war. The Massachusetts senator has come under a withering attack from Republicans for suggesting that the United States, like Iraq, needs a regime change. Traveling through Iowa, Kerry rejected what he called "phony arguments" from the GOP that political candidates should mute their criticism of the commander in chief. "This is...

Garry OwenDownload Midi File John Renfro Davis Information Lyrics Garry Owen was the unofficial marching song of the Seventh Cavalry. Gen. Custer reportedly heard the song among his Irish troop and liked it. The tune was then played so often the 7th became tied to it. The tune is first documented as Auld Bessy in 1788. It was later (1800) in the opera Harlequin Amulet (the Majic of Mona). About that time it was attributed to "Jackson of Cork" by a book of Country Dances by William Campbell. It also appeared in part two (1802) of Nathaniel Gow's four...

I'm stuck at a computer. Can anyone tell me, where I can get a good live webcast of President Bush's speech tonight?

I don't know how the United Nations felt about Colin Powell's "J'accuse" speech against Saddam Hussein. I can only say that he persuaded me, and I was as tough as France to convince. {Snip} I wasn't so sure about the al Qaeda connection. But I had heard enough to know that Saddam Hussein, with his stockpiles of nerve gas and death-dealing chemicals, is more of a menace than I had thought. I'm not ready for war yet. But Colin Powell has convinced me that it might be the only way to stop a fiend, and that if we do go,...

Santa Claus Decks Belligerent Man's Halls LEHIGH ACRES (Florida) - Don't pull on Superman's cape. Don't spit into the wind. And don't punch Santa Claus. Because, as Jonathan Danzey can attest, you might get a whuppin'. Danzey, 20, is facing misdemeanor intoxication and criminal mischief charges after authorities say he got into a fight Saturday with Santa at a fast-food restaurant 100 miles south of St. Petersburg. According to Lee County sheriff's deputies, Danzey saw Santa in a convertible with two women and became belligerent when Santa told him he had no gifts for him. ''I was in a bad ...

I just took a look over on DU to see what they had to say about the recent death of Nigel Hawthorne. "It's hard to think of a British government without Sir Humphrey. Luckily for the world, his counterparts are, I'm certain, still in charge." "If Sir H.was running things, he'd have had a quiet word with OBL and tricked him into ending up in a Saudi jail with very little bother." They watched the thing and came away with the impression that Sir Humphrey was a hero to be emulated. I guess I shouldn't really have been surprised, ...

Historic question. I might be able to find it myself, but at the moment, I've go too much on my plate as it is. Or maybe, I'm just being lazy. 8>) How did the Nuremberg trials, as well as those of the Japanese leaders, after WW2 operate? Specifically, how did they compare with the military tribunals being set up by the present administration?
