Bill Stamps Jr., a local businessman and community activist, was detained recently at Del Norte County Airport after marijuana was found in his luggage. Stamps was not arrested and faces no criminal charges, according to county District Attorney Mike Riese. Stamps has agreed to take part in a 30-day "home-study" diversion program, said his attorney, George Mavris. Riese said Stamps is being treated "like any other individual who has possession of less than an ounce." HAILEY, Idaho (AP) - Three pro-marijuana initiatives have again been approved by voters in the central Idaho town of Hailey. Voters yesterday approved initiatives to legalize medical use of marijuana, industrial use of hemp, and to make enforcement of marijuana laws the lowest police priority in the city. Rejected was an initiative to require the city to regulate and tax distribution of the drug. Voters last November passed the same three initiatives, but city officials balked at recognizing them.

A former Monroe County Sheriff's deputy has been found not guilty of the most serious charge against him. The case involved a deadly drunk driving crash. James Telban was found not guilty of vehicular manslaughter, but he was found guilty on a charge of DWI, and failure to yield. The case dates back to September 6th of last year when Telban drove with a blood alcohol level 3 times the legal limit, and he pulled out into the path of motorcyclist Peter Volkmuth of Greece. Five families who attempted to have their Batavia high students transferred out of a transgender teacher's class have been told their children will stay put. The district received five written requests from parents requesting their children be moved out of the classroom led by a teacher who changed sexes from male to female. Batavia's superintendent denied the request because they did not meet district guidelines. The teacher will instruct about 100 students this year.

There was a disturbing incident at a Rochester day care center recently involving a sexual act between two little boys. A 4-year-old boy at Head Start was caught during naptime, committing a sexual act with another child.
