Marijuana found in luggage of Bill Stamps Jr. at airport
The Daily Triplicate ^ | June 18, 2008 | Triplicate staff

Bill Stamps Jr., a local businessman and community activist, was detained recently at Del Norte County Airport after marijuana was found in his luggage.

Stamps was not arrested and faces no criminal charges, according to county District Attorney Mike Riese. Stamps has agreed to take part in a 30-day "home-study" diversion program, said his attorney, George Mavris.

Riese said Stamps is being treated "like any other individual who has possession of less than an ounce."

Stamps told The Triplicate he has a doctor's approval to use marijuana for treatment of stress that dates to his service during the Vietnam War. He said he normally does not carry it on commercial flights.

The marijuana, just under an ounce, was found during a random bag check as Stamps was preparing to board a flight to San Francisco on June 7.

"He missed that flight but was able to take the next one out," said Airport Manager Jim Bernard.

Stamps is a benefactor of a planned teen center that organizers want to operate this summer at the fairgrounds. Organizers have described it as a secure, drug- and alcohol-free environment that will feature entertainment and workshops.

Stamps could not be reached for comment Tuesday, but last Friday he said that he does not advocate the use of marijuana, despite having used it himself for medical reasons.

No arrest no charges. Good. Somehow I bet the less connected wouldn't be so lucky.

Stamps has to be a Republican because if he had been a Democrat the MSM would have pointed that fact out in the first sentence.

Stamps told The Triplicate he has a doctor's approval to use marijuana ...

Doctor's "approval"??

LOL! Guess that means he's got nothing in writing!

Can you link me to those posts? Most of the posts I've read don't claim that pot is good for anything. But they do argue that the war on pot is worst than the pot itself. And I agree.

What policy toward marijuana would you like to see adopted?

My answer: Regulate like alcohol at the state and federal levels.

The flight stessed him out, so he had a few hits before hand. Otherwise he would have had more than an ounce and been sent up the river. But as luck would have it, no charges and promptly put on the next flight.

John McCain funded by Soros since 2001

One thing we can say is, "Ron Paul is NOT supported by George Soros."

Sorry, but I don't smoke pot either.

Legalize it, polygamy, gay marriage, gambling, prostitution too. Separation of church and state and all--the state has no business legislating morality based on religion.

Why regulate something that grows wild in the woods. It does not need processing other than being cut and dried. Why not let existing hiring practices in place at most work sites advocating zero drug culture regulate who can or can not smoke the stuff. Take the profit out of the product and the problem cures itself.
