Should people turn off images before viewing Personal Messages on political forums? I’ve been reading about how CNN got the real name of the reddit forum user who they think created the wrestling video they felt so threatened by. It seems it involves sending emails with images or web links in them. When either the image is viewed with the rest of the message or when the link is clicked on the sender learns the IP address of the recipient. So if forum software allows images to be sent in PMs then one can include a transparent 1 pixel by...

The FBI has revealed that at least 15 percent of the agency's terrorism investigations focus on immigrants who arrived as refugees, vetted by groups like the United Nations. Out of more than 2,000 "violent extremist investigations," FBI Director Jim Comey, "about 300 of them are people who came to the United States as refugees." The testimony was uncovered by the Center for Immigration Studies from the long session Comey had in the Senate last week to mostly discuss the 2016 presidential election.

"Unidentified gunmen in SUVs abducted seven university students early Monday morning," an interior ministry official told AFP on condition of anonymity. He said the fate of the seven, who were snatched from the Battaween area, was unknown. Jassem al-Helfi, a leading figure of the anti-graft demonstrations that have been taking place almost weekly for around two years, said the seven were abducted at 1:30 am (2230 GMT on Sunday). "An armed gang kidnapped seven students who are active in peaceful protests from their apartment in Battaween," he said.

The franchise's Facebook page was said to have shared an image released by Israeli police which appears to show Palestinian hunger-strike leader Marwan Barghouti secretly breaking his fast. "Barghouti, if you are going to break your (hunger) strike, isn't pizza the better choice?" a screenshot of the post said, with a pizza box seemingly photoshopped into the picture. The image was later removed from the Facebook page, though it was still found on the page of at least one local branch.

A new Norwegian study has found the gap in labour participation rates between citizens born in Norway and third world migrants widens the longer newcomers have been in the country. Researchers at the Ragnar Frisch Centre for Economic Research uncovered “encouraging signs of labour market integration during an initial period upon migrants’ admission”. But after a period of just five to 10 years, according to the report, “the integration process goes into reverse with widening immigrant-native employment differentials and rising rates of immigrant social insurance dependency”.

In most countries there has been a strong trend for people to live longer over the past 50 years. But in the case of white Americans aged 45-54, mortality appears to have gone the other way.

On the morning of 13 February, Raymond Koh was exiting a highway in the leafy suburb of Kelana Jaya just outside of the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. A widely circulated CCTV clip appears to show what happened next. A convoy of black SUVs and motorcycles is seen swooping down on his car and boxing it in by the side of the road. Then, several men jump out and run to Mr Koh. There is a flurry of activity, and the convoy moves off - along with his car. It is allegedly the last time anyone sees him.

(Washington, DC) — Judicial Watch today announced it has sent notice-of-violation letters threatening to sue 11 states having counties in which the number of registered voters exceeds the number of voting-age citizens, as calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011-2015 American Community Survey. According to the letters, this is “strong circumstantial evidence that these … counties are not conducting reasonable voter registration record maintenance as mandated under the [National Voter Registration Act] NVRA.” Both the NVRA and the federal Help America Vote Act require states to take reasonable steps to maintain accurate voting rolls.

These are all are major reversals of Trump’s declared positions, and a major blow to Moscow’s hopes for reshaping its relationship with Washington. The Kremlin now must find the right strategy to handle this problem. Fortunately, it has a few options it can put on the table next week, when Tillerson meets with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. "Russia’s initial reaction to the chemical attack was a blanket defense of Assad’s air force: they bombed a rebel chemical weapons factory. Those same rebels then staged videos of children dying of exposure to sarin gas. It was predictably hapless. It was also...

"While the network of relationships, which we call the world system and which has now turned into chaos, is being reshaped, separations stand out more than partnerships, and conflicts more than reconciliation. Not only Turkey, but all countries are trying to determine their position in this pro-conflict and pro-showdown world according to the new centers to be formed. "The Western world is old now and has entered a period of stagnation. It is not as strong and determinant as it was after the two world wars. New centers and new powers have gained prominence. This is why a showdown in...

They stood in the centre of Brussels. Row on row. Hands held high, making hearts to the heavens. Showing the slaughtered they were not forgotten. Reminding themselves they were here with love. Looking to show humanity wins. That love conquers all. They lay in the centre of London, face down where they fell. Stabbed by a knife, rammed with a car, flung, broken, into the Thames, life bleeding out on the curb. And the news came thick and fast.
