What can we do about the 17th amendment?

Hearing over and over again that President Bush has "lost" 3 million jobs in the U.S. during his administration, I decided to check the statistics of employment/unemployment at http://www.econstats.com/BLS/blssaq3.htm . I was surprised that at this time in history, the total number of people working is larger than at any other time. The current rate of seasonally adjusted unemployment is not extremely high, it's actually quite average when compared to all of the statistics available for other years. Careful observation, taking into account the timing of the implementation of tax increases, the balancing of the budget by the '94 Congress,...

I saw a thread yesterday from some college students who infiltrated a peace march with their own signs protesting communism. Do you have that thread? I have to show that one to my wife! It had good pictures of them surrounded by peaceniks, holding their signs high and proud.

I heard mention of a website on "the Weekend" Saturday March 1st for people to be able to get names and addresses in order to send mail, letters of support directly to individual troops. Anyone have that written down anywhere? I was driving at the time, couldn't quite remember the exact name, so I couldn't find it on a search. The host said he'd have it on his website, but I forgot his name and web address too! Duh! ( had to take da wife out to shop and eat lunch, no chance to think about it for a couple...

Sorry in advance for the rant, but if any of you freedom loving folks are gettin' tired of being picked on for driving an SUV, and think you might like to strike back for a change.... I have an Idea. I was just surfing the net and wound up on this website, http://www.moles.org/ProjectUnderground/campaigns/suv.shtml It's by a group of greenie weenies that are offering free "tickets" for other greenie weenies to put on all of our gas guzzling SUV's as a protest. Ain't dat special? I think all of us freepers should order as many of these "tickets" as we can...

Dear Freepers, The IOC and the ISU have decided to suspend the French judge who admitted to BEING pressured to vote for the Russian skating pair in the Olympic Games Pairs Figure skating competition. My first thought was, "Why suspend the judge who blew the whistle?", but then I thought, why not. Isn't this just what always happens? The whistle blower gets blasted! No mention of anything to happen to the judge ACCUSED of pressuring the others. OF COURSE!!! I watched the skating, and was angered, as usual, at the blatant bias towards Eastern European athletes when it comes to ...

I saw a posting that showed a new "home protection device" here the other day. It was a baseball bat with a high powered flashlight in the end of it. I told my wife about it and she wants one! Gag gift for her son. Can anyone give me the name of the articel so I can search for it, or provide a link to it? I can't remember what it was. I think "Knight" was in the name of the product.

My fellow Freepers, After watching Fox News coverage of the enaugural balls last night, and the coverage of the Prayer Service this morning, I would like all Freepers to call on Fox News to get rid of this VILE creature Ellen RATner. She has always been a staunch supporter of Clinton and Gore, through all of their scandals, and is now going to be a thorn in Bush's side (by her own gleeful admission last night!).But her remarks this morning were just way out there considering the setting, and are devoid of any sense of decency. This woman has no ...

I seem to recall that the Clinton's refused to show up at a tradition at the White House. The outgoing residents hold a tea to welcome the new President and First Lady to their new home for the next 4 years. If memory serves, the Bush's were dissed. Will the Clinton's offer? And if they do, will the Bush's show more grace than they did? It's a small thing I know, but what would you suggest? If the Clinton's found some class lying around unused, and offered to host the tea, I think the Bush's should accept the invitation (if ...

Hey folks, isn't it time for California to release the absentee ballot totals? I think it would be great if "W" had a lead in the "popular" vote totals tonite before he gives his acceptance speech. (and before AL can claim he won the "popular" vote again in his concession speach) I seem to recall reading here that California had 35 days before they had to disclose the totals. Is that today? Anybody got a link to an official site in California to find out?

Dear Republican counters, You be sure to look VERY HARD at that Bush "chad", because you should know by now, that the Democrats sure are looking especially hard at that Gore "chad"! We must be sure to use the same "standard", so put on your "psychic network" official "medium" hats, and get to work! Remember, you don't have to see a vote, just "intent". Let's be sure we're all using the same rules! We wouldn't want to be accused of using a different standard! After all, we should be able to pull just as many votes out of thin air ...

Well does it? If one party can change the rules in mid game, what IS fair play? Does a 10 year rule that a ballot must have at least 2 corners broken to be counted make any difference? Do the rights of military voters carry the same weight with the Florida Supreme Court? I implore the Bush campaign to play fair, but DON'T USE DIFFERENT RULES! This decision of the FSC should not stand. It violates the Florida Legislature's "INTENT", it violates the law, and it violates the separation of powers in the state of Florida, and the nation. I ...

I don't know 'bout ya'll, but if they let Gore steal this election down there, they'll never see a DIME of my money! I'll never buy from a company based there, and I'll never "visit" their state AGAIN! (tourism isn't important to them down there, is it?)

Did Clinton win in '92? How 'bout '96? In light of the "Vast Left Wing" conspiracy of voter fraud that is being found all over this country, are those questions NOT nagging you too?I now have monumental doubts about those elections. All of the polls (except Zogby) showed Bush leading in a large majority of states, and even or slightly ahead of Gore in several battle ground states. It's clear to me that voter fraud, illegal vote buying, and vote tampering was wide spread, and COORDINATED. If Bush does eventually end up as the President, I would strongly urge that ...

Dear Mr. Wexler, I am a voter in Palm Co. Florida, (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and have to tell you, I too was confused by the "butterfly" ballot. I got into the booth, inserted the ballot, and looked at it for the first time, (I never bothered to look at it in the paper, or at the poster on the wall at my polling place, or bothered to ask the folks working the polls). I saw the little #3 next to George W. Bush's name, so I counted down 3 holes and punched it in. Now today, I discover that ...

If you were turned away from the polls, as some people have claimed, please check with your local voter registration office to see if you "voted" absentee. If you didn't, and they say you did, please ask to see the records and verify the signature, date, any notations by the vote, etc. Then bring any discrepancy to the attention of the person in charge, get copies of all materials and have them initialed by the person in charge as to their authenticity. Send copies to the State Attorney Generals office, and your party officials for action. If it turns out ...

Why, with charges of rampant voter fraud, do we not call for changes in the REGISTRATION and VERIFICATION process nationwide? If this election is going to hinge on voter fraud, it's time to do something about it. I for one DO NOT advocate a national identification system, BUT, I do believe that we must insist on proof of citizenship, residence, AND IDENTITY to be able to vote in NATIONAL ELECTIONS! All requests for absentee ballots, (nursing homes, mental hospitals, etc...) must be honored with PROOF of eligibility. Anyone needing "assistance" in voting, the assistance must be witnessed by two opposing ...

Now that you are the President Elect, please do not think of granting a pardon to Bill, Hilary, AL, Janet, etc. etc.... The Clinton/Gore administration have bastardized the justice system and broken so many laws... it would be a tragedy if they were NOT held accountable. We should send a message that NO ONE is above the law. That we are a nation of LAWS, not of men. Show the world, and the Democrat party that they WILL be held accountable for their actions. Show groups like the NAACP that they can't use their power for political purposes and STILL ...

Went to the polls this morning, and lo and behold, a big red TEAMTSERS UNION van was parked across the street, not 150 ft. from the polling place. Nice paintjob, TEAMSTERS painted all over it with "Teamsters for GORE" signs on the side. Thought that was illegal. Polling district C-6 Findlay, Ohio.
