U.S. Said to Consider a Breakup of Google to Address Search Monopoly The Justice Department and state attorneys general are discussing various scenarios to remedy Google’s dominance in online search, including a breakup of the company

Google was found last week to have violated antitrust law by illegally maintaining a monopoly in internet search. Now discussions over how to fix those violations have begun.

Justice Department officials are considering what remedies to ask a federal judge to order against the search giant, said three people with knowledge of the deliberations involving the agency and state attorneys general who helped to bring the case. They are discussing various proposals, including breaking off parts of Google, such as its Chrome browser or Android smartphone operating system, two of the people said.

Other scenarios under consideration include forcing Google to make its data available to rivals, or mandating that it abandon deals that made its search engine the default option on devices like the iPhone

...The most extreme is for Google to split off a substantial part of its business. That could mean the company would have to spin off Chrome, its web browser, or Android, its software for smartphones.

Never gonna happen under Democrat bull$hit administration!

Google has bought and paid the Democrat masters!

Now under Trump, he’ll split the baby, end the add monopoly, keep the national security ability to control the web.

That’s because Trump is smart.

My opinion, it should be broken up. Split search, YouTube and Adsense into 3 separate entities. At least that much. Maybe also split up their gmail and related functions (their version of excel, word, collaboration etc) into another entity.

Split Android off, see how fast that steaming pile sinks to the bottom without cash coming from Goog.

Nuke Google into glass from space.

It’s the ONLY way to be sure!

I don’t know what’s happened to the Google search engine, but it barely works anymore. Aside from Google being evil, at least the search engine used to work. It was so much better than its competitors that I tried multiple times to replace it with something else, only to reluctantly return. But something has definitely changed, because now it never gives me any decent search results…on anything. Half the results page is just sponsored ads and the rest is filled with links that are shockingly off base compared to my search terms.

It feels like they just abandoned it and quit trying.

If they want to “break up” somebody, let it be these big investment firms.

Using Startpage Search Engine
https://www.startpage.com

Advanced Search example

Search criteria: “vacuum cleaners”

Searching after: August 1, 2024

Excluding: cnet.com, cnn.com, co.uk, etsy.com, go.com, google.com, merriam-webster.com, nytimes.com, reddit.com, snopes.com, youtube.com

- - -

In the Startpage search field (NOT in the URL address field), enter:

“vacuum cleaners” after:2024-08-01 -site:cnet.com -site:cnn.com -site:co.uk -site:etsy.com -site:go.com -site:google.com -site:merriam-webster.com -site:nytimes.com -site:reddit.com -site:snopes.com -site:youtube.com

The exclusions reduce a lot of search results clutter.

Bust it into a million pieces. Shackle Google itself and make them sell off YouTube, Android, their app store. Then bust up Amazon and Meta (ie Facebook) next.

Breaking up Google would be a step in the right direction.

Elon Musk’s announcement of ‘TruthGPT,’ his search engine aimed at
prioritizing truth, transparency, and user privacy, has shaken up the tech industry.

Musk is very rich now, but if he manages to topple Google, he’ll be drowning in money.

Alphabet is a holding company that owns the search engine Google. As a public company,
<><>it must disclose financial details, including quarterly and annual earnings,

<><>individual owners include Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Alphabet’s annual revenue for 2023 was $307.39 billion,
and its market cap was $1.87 trillion as of the end of March 2024.

Alphabet’s main shareholders are Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey
Brin, Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Vanguard Group, and BlackRock Inc.

Here’s where google has gotten scary. I bought a google phone for the camera system. I don’t upload pictures. The whole integrated ad system of google is now scary. I used a new inspection tool at work. I didn’t says it’s name or take a picture of it. I did use the flashlight function on my phone. next time I did a search on google, an ad for this exact item popped up at the top of my search. Way too coincidental and big brother for my taste. maybe I should buy an Iphone next. /s
