"MEXICO - A B.C. construction worker jailed for more than two years in Mexico over a building contract that went sour says he's been wrongly imprisoned by a corrupt system. "Get me out of here," a frustrated Peter Kimber said yesterday from his prison cell in Huatulco, where he suffers from kidney problems and other ill health. He said he has endured dozens of beatings and atrocious conditions because he can't pay bribes to get out. "I want somebody to actually help save what's left of my life," he said. "I've tried it on my own for two years and...

Thousands are sent back to Portugal BETWEEN 15,000 and 22,000 Portuguese illegal immigrants could be deported from Canada. An unprecedented operation has started to expatriate all the illegal immigrants working in the country. In February, the Ambassador to the country, João Silveira de Carvalho, received an official communication from the Immigration Ministry saying that all Portuguese working in Canada without a permit would be ordered to return immediately to their country. The first Portuguese families have been put on aeroplanes and forced to leave. Some of the families had been living in Canada for several years and many had already...

Ottawa rejects U.S. model on workers Illegal employees will have to apply legally American policy sends wrong signal: Solberg Mar. 29, 2006. 01:00 AM BRUCE CAMPION-SMITH OTTAWA BUREAU OTTAWA—The federal government has no plans to follow in the footsteps of the United States, which appears ready to give as many as 11 million illegal workers a chance at U.S. citizenship, Immigration Minister Monte Solberg says. Solberg bluntly rejected the U.S. proposal as a solution for Canada, saying that letting illegal workers remain in this country would send the signal that it's okay to slip in the back door. "The ideal,...

Please pray for my Jewish friend who is only in his early 50's and is dying of cancer. The doctor's have given him 3 - 8 weeks to live. He is Jewish, but has lived a secular life. I have to say he treated me like a son for the 10 years I worked for him and I wouldn't be where I am today here in the US if it wasn't for him. Haim, I hope you beat this cancer, but I am one of little faith these days. I wish I knew how to share my faith with you,...

Posted on Sun, Jan. 29, 2006 HARMFUL RESULTSIt's time to crack down on illegal immigrationBy Jim FoleyOn Dec. 13, my letter was published concerning my daughter's auto accident involving an illegal immigrant. I encouraged the news media and the public to speak out about this epidemic that is invading our area. I am not suggesting that all illegal immigrants are bad people, but they are illegal and must enter our country as our ancestors did, by legal channels. I thought I would see a large public response. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Do you need to have one that you love...

Deport the Khadr Family View Current Signatures - Sign the Petition -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To: Canadian Government The Canadian government has granted emergency passports to Maha Elsamnah Khadr and her 14-year-old son Karim. Members of this family have made statements in support of al-Qaeda. They should not have been allowed back into Canada, and I, as a Canadian citizen, do not feel safe knowing that we have fundamentalists living in our own backyard. My fear is that our government will set this woman up on welfare, as well as dole out free health care for her injured child. I don't want Canadian...

Death threats won't deter a Scarborough woman from trying to oust the al-Qaida-linked Khadr family from Canada. For the most part, Donna Campbell said her online petition calling for the Khadr family to be deported has been an overwhelming success. She was happy to hear The Toronto Sun was flooded yesterday with people trying to find her Web address -- www.petitiononline.com/khadr/petition.html -- and by yesterday afternoon 20 new signatures were logged each hour. By last night, the amount of traffic was crashing the site intermittently. But not everyone has been supportive. Campbell, who started the petition on the weekend, received...

'Baby killer' taunt irks MP with son in Iraq Myron Thompson takes protesters' chant personally Tom Barrett The Edmonton Journal Sunday, March 23, 2003 EDMONTON - It really gets under Myron Thompson's skin when he hears anti-war protesters chanting that United States President George Bush is a baby killer. The Wild Rose Alliance MP and his wife can't help but think of their 29-year-old son Dennis, who's a U.S. combat soldier somewhere deep in Iraq. "When they say that, they're accusing the soldiers," he said Saturday. "They should know that there's a young Canadian who's part of that force, and...

'Peggers rally for U.S. 'Stand by American friends' By KEVIN ENGSTROM, STAFF REPORTER Waving American flags, about 80 Winnipeggers marched along Memorial Boulevard to the front steps of the Legislature yesterday to show their support for the U.S-led war on Iraq. The rally deteriorated into a tense shouting match soon after, though, when two men of Iraqi descent arrived to voice their disapproval of the war. 'KILL HER' Holding up a young girl, one man told protesters the United States was killing thousands of Iraqi children every day. "Why don't you kill her?" he yelled, attempting to push the girl...

Tens of thousands of chanting, banner-waving protesters crowded a major Montreal boulevard Saturday in one of the largest rallies in the world to urge an end to the U.S.-led war in Iraq. Some rowdy protesters took their anger out on the American flag, with Old Glory being torched at rallies in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax. Montreal protesters chanted, “No to war, yes to peace” and “Bush, terrorist” as some people lit up the American flag in front of the U.S. consulate. Riot-equipped Montreal police were also pelted with some objects and several arrests were made. The Montreal rally was...

Tuesday, February 25, 2003 Warriors' tears The pitiable state of Canuck forces is hard for vets to stomach By Mike Strobel Before you decide it's okay to send Johnny Canuck anywhere near Iraq, let's talk to a coupla guys named Tom. They have some expertise on the subject. Tom Martineau took a sniper's bullet in Bosnia in '94. He was a warrant officer. He was in his Cougar, a vehicle more suited to training back home. The AK-47's slug went through his left arm, his ribs, his left lung, knicked his heart, cut a kidney in half and crossed his...
