ATLANTA -- Two members of the Miami football team were knocked unconscious Friday night moments after the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Hurricanes coach Larry Coker said. The incident took place after LSU's 40-3 win over Miami. Exactly what happened was hazy moments after the game. However, about a dozen Miami players ran toward the tunnel leading to the LSU dressing room after the game's final play. LSU tackle Andrew Whitworth said the dust-up stemmed from a misunderstanding. Whitworth said LSU wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, a Miami native, was kidding around with a Miami player at the end of the game and...

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - CEO of MPC Computers apologized to Boston College defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka on Thursday for making fun of his name during a banquet before the Eagles' bowl game against Boise State. At a banquet Monday night before the MPC Computers Bowl between the Eagles and Boise State, Mike Adkins read a list of the top 10 things Boise and Boston have in common, including, "No one in either city can properly pronounce Mathias Kiwanuka." Adkins mispronounced Kiwanuka's name in the punchline and some Boston College players said later they found the joke insulting and disrespectful... ......

Good seemingly good games today.... One being the Emerald Bowl from San Francisco pitting Georgia Tech against the Utah Utes. A former BCS team of last year facing one of the most inconsistent offenses in college football this year. GT beat Auburn, but found a way to lose to NC State and Virginia. The other game being the Pac Life Holiday Bowl. Should be a fun game. You have Oklahoma, playing to the end of a disappointing season against one of the surprises of the year, Oregon, who probably feels snubbed by the BCS. Will Oregon go the way of...

AUSTIN, Texas — Among the exhibits seen on a tour of the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind., is a replica of Bear Bryant's houndstooth hat, Knute Rockne's sweatshirt and whistle, a Red Grange jersey and even the soup bowl and spoon from which Joe Montana ate while fending off hypothermia in the 1979 Cotton Bowl. The tour eventually progresses to the National Championship Room, which displays memorabilia to honor the reigning champion. The past two years, the room could be mistaken for a University of Southern California dorm room. With one more victory this season, the Trojans...

SAN DIEGO -- The berth in the Holiday Bowl began as a harsh reality for the Oregon Ducks, who had hoped to play in a Bowl Championship Series game. On Tuesday, the bowl offered a different kind of reality check when the Ducks and the Oklahoma Sooners were invited aboard the USS Nimitz, a 97,000-ton, nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. All of the players seemed to enjoy touring the ship at Coronado Island. The ship, which stands nearly 20 stories and is more than three football fields long, had special meaning for one member of the Oregon team.

OF THE 28 COLLEGE FOOTBALL bowl games, only one should be played on the basis of graduation rates. That is the game between Boston College and Boise State. They are two of only 14 teams that have overall graduation rates of 50 percent or higher, a black graduation rate of 50 percent or higher and racial graduation gaps of less than 15 percentage points. Of the 56 bowl teams in my 10th-annual Graduation Gap Bowl, I would disqualify 37 of them for having overall graduation rates under 50 percent and/or black graduation rates under 50 percent and/or racial gaps of...

Campbell scores five touchdowns in Navy blowout In 27 Holiday Bowls since 1978, San Diego has catalogued a library of offensive highlights and a book full of offensive records, from Barry Sanders to Ty Detmer. None, though, can top this: 1,183 total yards combined for two teams and five touchdowns by one player. It happened last night in the first San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl, when Navy pitched and powered past Colorado State with a 51-30 victory in front of an announced crowd of 36,842 at Qualcomm Stadium

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- The unstoppable trio of Dustin Almond, Shawn Nelson and Cody Hull helped Southern Mississippi start the bowl season with a bang. Almond threw a pair of second-half touchdown passes to Nelson and Hull ran for 161 yards and a score as Southern Miss posted a 31-19 triumph over Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl. A senior, Almond completed 17-of-32 passes for 253 yards for the Golden Eagles (7-5), who also won this game last season. However, that contest was in the Superdome, while this one was forced north due to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina....

Here are the picks from several college football dignitaries along with Clucko the Chicken. Put down two feed dishes, one representing one team and one representing another and whichever dish the chicken goes to first is the team that's going to win. You'll do just as well. (Really, the pick is a coin flip. Don't laugh; Clucko won the 2000 Bowl Pool among 24 entrants.) You can get to the Expert Picks in the above dropdown under Predictions. MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) - The Bowl Championship Series agreed to add a fifth game Sunday, increasing access for schools not part of college football's most lucrative postseason system. The champions of the six BCS conferences - the Big East, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-10 - will maintain automatic berths in one of the five games. The remaining four spots will be at-large berths to be decided by a complex formula using national rankings. The fifth bowl is still subject to final approval based on market viability, but all indications point to it being in place when...

I've been asked to supply a sports report for this year's family holiday newsletter. I decided to "borrow" Rush's method of picking winners of football games based on the "Politically Correct Liberal Methodology". I applied it to selected NCAA bowl games that are of interest to various family members. It turned out to be a fun little exercise so I thought maybe some creative freeper football fans might want to add some picks of their own. Here are mine:Fort Worth Bowl – TCU vs. Boise State The 18th ranked Boise State Broncos take on the TCU Horned Frogs in the...
