SALEM (MA)— Moments after learning he’ll spend the next three years in prison, Daniel Eremian unloaded on his brother-in-law, Congressman John Tierney, calling the Salem Democrat “the biggest liar in the world.” “He knew everything that was going on,” said Eremian, 62, the former owner of Brodie’s Pub in Peabody who now lives in Boca Raton, Fla. “He sat in the boxes with bookies at Fenway Park.” He called Tierney’s claims to the contrary “hogwash.” Tierney, through his spokeswoman, Kathryn Prael, denied Eremian’s claims in a statement earlier tonight. “Today, clearly bitter at having lost his case and harboring old...

Inside the synagogue, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, who mindlessly called Israeli settlements obstacles to peace, was going to speak. Outside B’nai Torah, in Boca Raton, Florida, members were anxiously pointing out Alan Bergstein, writer and pro-Israel activist, to the reinforced law enforcement detail. Bergstein and other anti-Obama Jews were denied entrance and told by law enforcement to leave the property. How far and how shamelessly some in the Jewish community have sunk in their embrace of Obama is ineradicably seen in this action. A Jew being denied entrance to a synagogue brings to mind Germany in...

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Shoppers who are looking for something sparkly to put under the Christmas tree can skip the jewelry and go straight to the source: an ATM that dispenses shiny 24-carat gold bars and coins. A German company installed the machine Friday at an upscale mall in Boca Raton, a South Florida paradise of palm trees, pink buildings and wealthy retirees. Thomas Geissler, CEO of Ex Oriente Lux and inventor of the Gold To Go machines, says the majority of buyers will be walk-ups enamored by the novelty. But he says they're also convenient for more serious...

NEW YORK --A Florida doctor was convicted Monday of providing material support to terrorists by agreeing to treat injured al-Qaida fighters so they could return to Iraq to battle Americans. When the verdict was read, Sabir looked straight ahead. Later, as he was escorted from the courtroom, he waved to supporters, who said, "Stay strong." His lawyer, Ed...

American universities rank among the best in the world, but they also boast another, more dubious distinction: They are home to some of the world’s most radical academics. Last month, one of these select individuals, UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian, brought his hate-filled show to two extremist Islamic Centers in South Florida. Both of these institutions are in the process of building large-scale mosques in their respective cities. And, given that their guest had previously called for attacks on the United States, the question naturally arose: Were these institutions looking to make friends in the community or to start a holy war?Past...

BOCA RATON · It is one of Florida's most polarizing policies, and anyone in the Renaissance Hotel's Coral Ballroom Sunday afternoon could see why. In a sometimes jolting ride over political fault lines, the generally liberal American Civil Liberties Union and a local Republican leader faced off over Florida's school vouchers for students in failing public schools. A signature initiative of Republican Gov. Jeb Bush, the "Opportunity Scholarships" are offered to students whose public schools fail the state's grading system at least twice in four years. The students can use the money toward tuition at private schools, including religious ones....
