GEICO has closed all of its 38 California agent offices that sell auto and homeowners policies and other lines and has also ended the practice of selling insurance through telephone agents in the state. Three offices in Sacramento, one in Roseville, three in Fresno and one in Modesto were among offices that have closed in the last few days. The closures are resulting in more than 35 layoffs in the Sacramento area and hundreds statewide. The GEICO office in Roseville only opened in July 2021. GEICO put out a press release at the time saying it would meet the insurance...

Against the backdrop of President Trump’s latest tweet urging NFL players to stand for the national anthem, three members of the Miami Dolphins took a knee during the national anthem and the New Orleans Saints knelt, then rose to their feet before Sunday morning’s game in London’s Wembley Stadium. The Saints, as quarterback Drew Brees had promised in a tweet, emulated the Dallas Cowboys, who last week took a knee with owner Jerry Jones, then stood for the anthem. “As a way to show respect to all, our #Saints team will kneel in solidarity prior to the national anthem &...

The dinner bill for three friends at Chilly D's Restaurant stung, but it wasn't the price - printed on the top of the receipt were the words "Fat Girls". "I got the bill, I was looking at bill [and] I was like, 'Why does this receipt say 'fat girls?'" customer Christine Duran said. The friends had dined out at the Stockton, Calif., restaurant, which is a part of the Cameo Casino Restaurant, on Thursday. The bill lists charges for three tri-tips with fries and three sodas, for a total of $25.50. A bartender named Jeff had apparently typed in "Fat...

Star-Telegram Staff Writer As penny-pinching airlines cut every expense possible, passengers have learned to bring their own food and entertainment. Now, passengers should be ready to pack their own pillows, at least on American Airlines. This week, Fort Worth-based American quietly removed the pillows from its workhorse fleet of 334 MD-80 airplanes, typically used for shorter flights. The move, which stemmed from a strategy session with employees this year, will save the airline money by enabling workers to clean cabins faster, spokesman Tim Wagner said. "It will streamline our cabin service," he said. Crews should be able to make cabins...

RED BANK, Tenn. -- The owner of a shaved ice business was arrested after two employees claimed he spanked them for making mistakes at work. Paul Eugene Levengood, 57, was charged with two counts of sexual battery after the 19-year-old women complained. One of the women told police that on her first day at the Tasty Flavors Sno Biz, Levengood made her sign a statement that said: "I give Gene permission to bust my behind any way he sees fit." Police Sgt. Jay LaMance said the women likely accepted the spankings instead of leaving immediately because they were "brought up...
  • Dude, DON'T Buy A Dell

    08/25/2004 7:15:21 PM PDT · by Oorang · 43 replies · 794+ views
Anyone in the market for a new PC/laptop be forewarned. DON'T buy a Dell. I purchased a new Dell laptop two months ago. Already it needs to go in for repair (under warranty). Without going into pages of gory details their products stink, their tech support and customer support is non-existent (even if you are lucky enough to get someone that speaks English) and they don't honor their warranties. Don't be sucked in by their low prices. It's not worth it. One of the most frustrating experiences ever.
