Janet Reno, the nation’s first female attorney general, approved the FBI’s assault on the Davidians. Previously, she had zealously prosecuted child abuse cases in Dade County, Fla, though many of her high-profile convictions were later overturned because of gross violations of due process. Reno approved the FBI assault after being told “babies were being beaten.” It is not known who told her about the false claims of child abuse. Reno’s sterling reputation helped the government avoid any apparent culpability for the deaths of 27 children on April 19, 1993. After Reno publicly promised to take responsibility for the outcome at...

The largest annual trade show for shooting, hunting and outdoor show in the world is not immune to the partial government shutdown’s effects. Two scheduled educational sessions involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms at the Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade Show at the Sands Expo and Convention Center were canceled due to the agents being furloughed. “The cancelled sessions were replaced with sessions on other topics,” said spolesperson Bill Brassard with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which sponsors the show. “These and other seminars are attended by firearms retailers, who were basically unaffected because they continued to have...

CNN decided to "investigate" the number of people who lie on the 4473 forms, which are used when someone purchases a firearm. It asks basic questions like your name, address, date of birth and if you've committed a number of criminal violations. When you fill it out you check a simple "yes" or "no" on each question. Lying on 4473 is a felony that can result in a hefty fine and up to 10 years in prison. What's silly is it took an "investigation" for CNN to realize a fact that gun rights advocates have been saying for years:...

It was under the Barack Obama administration that bureaucrats in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tried to ban ammunition for AR-15 rifles, which are among the most commonly used in America. The move failed when intense resistance developed from majorities in the House and the Senate. But the details of that campaign have remained hidden over the intervening years, and Washington watchdog Judicial Watch says the secrecy needs to end. The organization filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the BATF over about 1,900 pages of records regarding the proposed reclassification that would have banned certain types...

WACO — The fire rose above the Texas prairie like a portent, an inferno consuming David Koresh and more than 70 of his followers in the Branch Davidian compound. Koresh's personal apocalypse was televised live worldwide just after noon on April 19, 1993. Questions about what went wrong began to mount before the ashes were cool. How could a 33-year-old ninth-grade dropout convince so many people that he was the Lamb and God had willed this terrible end - nurses and teachers, a postman and a Harvard-educated lawyer, Australians and Brits, New Zealanders and an Argentinian-born Israeli Jew? Above all,...

he Department of Justice (Department) proposes to amend the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives regulations to clarify that “bump fire” stocks, slide-fire devices, and devices with certain similar characteristics (bump-stock-type devices) are “machineguns” as defined by the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) and the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), because such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger. Specifically, these devices convert an otherwise semiautomatic firearm into a machinegun by functioning as a self-acting or self-regulating mechanism that harnesses the recoil energy...

Karen Mallard is running against incumbent Republican Congressman Scott Taylor in Virginia's Second Congressional District. In the wake of the tragic school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, she decided to destroy her husband's AR-15 rifle. In a video posted to Facebook, she said she wanted this rifle out of the house and her husband agreed. Our friends at Twitchy noted her blog post on the matter: You may have seen Emma Gonzalez's amazing speech where she called out Trump and other politicians for taking NRA money and refusing to take any action on reforming America's...
