The largest annual trade show for shooting, hunting and outdoor show in the world is not immune to the partial government shutdowns effects.
Two scheduled educational sessions involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms at the Shooting, Hunting & Outdoor Trade Show at the Sands Expo and Convention Center were canceled due to the agents being furloughed.
The cancelled sessions were replaced with sessions on other topics, said spolesperson Bill Brassard with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which sponsors the show. These and other seminars are attended by firearms retailers, who were basically unaffected because they continued to have a full seminar schedule to choose from.
The ATF is responsible for regulating the firearm industry in the U.S. through licensing. The agencies duties also include the investigation and prevention of federal offenses involving the unlawful use, manufacture and possession of firearms and explosives, according to the ATF website.
Despite the ATF agents not being able to attend the show this year, as they have every year in the past, no other aspects of the show were altered by the shutdown.
No booths were affected by the shutdown, he said...

The ATF people gave sessions the year I went to the show. You had to sign up to attend and it was first come etc. They gave talks on rule changes for dealers and folks in the business. Clarified rules verbiage and they were very informative when working in the business. This is not a good deal. The question answering parts were pretty nice.
Believe that there will be ATF agents and California DOJ agents in force as they are each year. Other States ie: New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, and others will be there! The agents from “Anti-Second States” are always there
taking pictures and notes. You may recorded looking at the latest firearm! I kid you not!
As I would expect.
Thanks for sharing.
I see. The BATF bureaucrats gave you pointers on how to navigate their bureaucracy. Useful, I suppose ... but there’s a much easier, and better way that we can ease your bureaucratic problems.
We can eliminate the BATF.
Then there wouldn’t be a bureaucratic labyrinth to navigate.
I saw them there today, at an information table.
I was in an elevator going to my room the year I went to Shot Show with a swat team from north CA. They had been sent to the show to view all the advances in the tactical equipment. The were a great bunch, enjoying the show and there for their job. A drunk bitched us out for messing up his gambling trip and taking up the elevators. Everyone ignored him till the door shut then one guy said the guy really POd him and he considered jacking him up. I told him dont do that, Vegas LEO will skip you guys and haul me in. We were all laughing. They see jails all the time. Me I try to avoid them.
As Reid Heinrich said, back then Congress was seldom in session because it took horse and carriage to get there ON THEIR OWN DIME, ie government was most of the time shut down.
I’m assuming that the SHOT Show in in Las Vegas every year. Not in my budget. Would love to go.
I go to a lot of shows in and around Minnesota. Nothing that compares with this annual show.
Several years ago, I attended a show at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds. First and only time that someone got shot.
There you have it...
... All “Non essential personnel”
I have had a FFL for years. In 2012 I turned 60 and the wife encouraged me to go to Shot Show. So me and a friend went. Best birthday present I ever got. I talked to the head of Sierra bullet development and the head of S&W s pistol engineering department and more. If you can ever swing it go. My biggest regret, R Lee Ermey was hanging out at the Glock booth. We went by the booth and missed him each time. Colt had a beautiful little Gatling gun and Kriegoff let me handle a double 375h&h. Great time.
Entrance and Exit as well.
You are filmed all over the casinos and hotels. If youre a licensed dealer do you think ATF dont know who you are? Idiots cant just walk in off the streets. You have to qualify to get in. Everyone is there. Brownells, Midway, Crimson Trace, everyone. Get a grip.
I have a grip.
I also know what those SOBs did at a Peaceful gathering at the Texas Capital back 20+/- years ago until We started taking pictures of them taking pictures of Us.
Then they left. From that location anyway.
Should I refresh History on Ruby Ridge, Mount Carmel and OKC or do you remember?
