ORLANDO, Fla. — Diversity, equity and inclusion programs were abolished Tuesday from Walt Disney World’s governing district, now controlled by appointees of Gov. Ron DeSantis, in an echo of the Florida governor’s agenda which has championed curtailing such programs in higher education and elsewhere. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District said in a statement that its diversity, equity and inclusion committee would be eliminated, as would any job duties connected to it. Also axed were initiatives left over from when the district was controlled by Disney supporters, which awarded contracts based on goals of achieving racial or gender parity. (snip)...

The Florida Board of Education became the first state education agency to approve the use of PragerU’s conservative curriculum in public schools, the organization confirmed to The Capitolist on Friday. PragerU, a nonprofit organization, produces video, magazine, and book resources as an alternative to what they perceive as the dominant left-wing ideology prevalent in culture, media, and education. The group’s stated mission is to “provide a free alternative to the prevailing left-wing narratives in schools,” according to its website. According to the group, the current education system “prioritizes pushing radical activism over imparting factual knowledge, leading to concerns about students’...

Even though the S&P 500 Index has jumped double digits, Disney’s stock is almost at its 5-Year Low. Market opening on Friday, July 21st, saw Disney’s stock at 86.54, nearing its 5-year low of 84.07.This stock price decline is believed to have erased around $16 billion from the company’s market value. Now, there’s speculation that Iger is thinking about selling the company to Apple or at least selling the noncore pieces of the business.

Ron DeSantis wants the state's pension fund to investigate Bud Light-makers AB InBev and possibly explore a lawsuit for putting social activism ahead of shareholders during its partnership with Dylan Mulvaney. The Florida Governor, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, sent a letter to the fund's interim director Lamar Taylor, where he said that 'all options are on the table after partnering with the transgender influencer caused Bud Light's parent company, Anheuser-Busch, a $27 billion loss. 'We must prudently manage the funds of Florida's hardworking law enforcement officers, teachers, firefighters, and first responders in a manner that focuses on growing returns,...

Disney CEO Bob Iger directly responded to criticism from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and conservatives that the company is sexualizing children. "We are a pre-eminent entertainer in the world, and we're proud of our track record there. The notion that Disney is in any way sexualizing children, quite frankly, is preposterous and inaccurate," Iger said during an interview on CNBC Thursday.

Visitors to Disney theme parks this summer are encountering something they haven’t seen in a while: elbow room. Travel analysts and advisers say traffic to Disney’s U.S. parks, and some rival parks, has slowed this summer. Data from a travel company that tracks line-waiting time at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., shows that the Independence Day weekend was one of the slowest in nearly a decade. Disney executives have said they have expected weaker earnings from their U.S. parks this year. The Orlando-area resort is even offering hotel discounts around Christmas, typically a peak period. Travel advisers and industry...

A Florida judge this week sided with the state in a challenge by the Florida teachers union over rules that restrict what books and materials are available in classrooms. The union and two other advocacy groups sued the state in March, saying the way it interpreted a new law about school library books went further than the law intended, leading to censorship and book bans. The 2022 law requires districts to catalog every book on school shelves and create a formal review process for complaints. Some parents have asked for certain books to be removed from schools because of the...

In his first year as Florida governor in 2019, Ron DeSantis paid a somber visit to the memorial for the 49 people who lost their lives when a man opened fire at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando. His wife, Casey, clutched a bouquet of white flowers as DeSantis took in the faces of those who died on that June night in 2016. Most were Latino. Many were gay. Before leaving, DeSantis signed a wall with the words: “Florida will always remember these precious lives.” For Florida’s LGBTQ community, the day brought a glimmer of optimism that this new Republican...

Ron DeSantis is preparing to implement additional reforms at Florida public schools that would prohibit drag performances to students and only allow children to go by new names with parental consent. The Florida governor, along with Florida agencies, want to give parents more power over their childrens' education, as well as restrict any activities deemed age inappropriate. Proposals from Florida's Department of Education, including a ban on districts using social media app TikTok, comes after DeSantis already received a slew of attacks related to his Parental Bill of Rights – deemed by critics the 'Don't Say Gay' law. DeSantis' ongoing...

Casey DeSantis made a bold political fashion statement while on the presidential campaign trail with her husband, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Saturday. The Sunshine State’s first lady sported a black leather jacket emblazoned with “Where woke goes to die” and an outline of Florida and an alligator on its back at a charity biker rally in Des Moines, Iowa. The 42-year-old DeSantis wore the blunt outfit that pays homage to one of her husband’s key campaign promises — to end “woke” ideology. Ron DeSantis, 44, reiterated his commitment in a speech to his supporters at the event, where he also...

At a recent conference, Disney parks chief Josh D’Amaro reportedly said the company is still looking to expand or enhance existing attractions at Disney World in Orlando to the tune of $17 billion. D’Amaro was speaking last week at the the J.P. Morgan Global Technology, Media and Communications Conference in Boston, according to a CNBC report. He told audience members that the $17 billion investment “gives you a sense of how aggressive we’re being in Walt Disney World.”

Florida Gov. and GOP presidential nominee Ron DeSantis has successfully sucked the pleasure out of many of life’s little joys, from drag brunches to Disney adult TikTok. And thanks to the passage of SB 1438, or the Protection of Children Act, DeSantis may now be bringing the ax down on furries. On Wednesday, the organizers behind Megaplex, an Orlando-based convention for furries — people who enjoy dressing up as or making art of anthropomorphized creatures — posted a statement on Twitter regarding its policy for admitting minors. The statement was in response to SB 1438, which makes “knowingly admitting a...

You may recall when the NAACP issued a travel advisory, warning Black people to either avoid going to Florida or to “be careful” when traveling there. (Despite the fact that the Chairman of the NAACP lives in Florida and has for decades.) Since that time, I’ve watched numerous commentators, particularly on Fox News, scoffing at the warning. They remind us that Black families have been moving to the Sunshine State in record numbers and availing themselves of the state’s record low unemployment and crime rates, not to mention the weather. So yes, it’s easy to scoff at the NAACP’s highly...

It turns out that when you have an effective executive leader who enforces law and order, it actually works in making sure that rules are followed in society. For example, consider that illegal aliens are already “self-deporting” themselves out of Florida after Governor and 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis (R) enacted one of the toughest immigration laws in the entire country. “We’re fleeing the place we fled to,” one illegal alien told Axios. “I remember when my mother sat me down and said, ‘things are bad; we have to leave,’ and I had to tell her that same thing.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed into law a bill that outlaws spending on diversity, equity and inclusion programs at public colleges and universities, saying at a news conference the “whole experiment of DEI is coming to an end in the state of Florida.” The sweeping legislation, HB 999/SB 266, states public institutions “may not expend any state or federal funds to promote, support, or maintain any programs or campus activities that … advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, or promote or engage in political or social activism.” It’s one of three bills the governor signed Monday as part...

Florida is eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in higher education, which Gov. Ron DeSantis said have been used as a “veneer to impose an ideological agenda” in universities. DeSantis is signing Senate Bill 266, which specifies that Florida institutes of higher education can not use state or federal funds to promote DEI initiatives DeSantis explained that the bill will effectively “reorient our universities back to their traditional missions,” which is to treat people as individuals and elevate merit over superficial characteristics promoted by the radical left.
