During Wednesday’s edition of CNN Tonight, host Don Lemon played a clip of Representative Ron DeSantis, Republican nominee in the Florida gubernatorial election, saying “the last thing we need to do is monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases and bankrupting the state” during an interview with Fox News. Lemon asked: “Does anybody else hear that dog whistle? It’s kind of a bullhorn.” If "monkey" is imagined as dehumanizing, then what kind of metaphor is "dog whistle"? Aren't you suggesting conservative voters are dogs?

Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (D) said Sunday that he would increase taxes on corporations in the state to help fund his plan to provide Medicare for all. Gillum was pressed on CNN's "State of the Union" about his pledge to provide medical care for everyone in his state, including how he would pay for it. "I don’t buy that," Gillum said when asked if higher taxes are a prerequisite of Medicare for all. "I will absolutely not raise taxes on everyday working Floridians."

Gubernatorial Candidate Ron DeSantis said that Floridians shouldn't "monkey it up" by electing a socialist candidate and his policies. As is common with the left, they decided that the word "monkey" must describe the race of DeSantis' opponent and they labeled him a racist. So what does it mean that the left uses the word very, very frequently.
