As the nation tires of quarantines, boredom and loneliness, the same politicians who find glee in slapping wrists and dooming small businesses regularly break the rules, in letter and in spirit, when they want to. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, dining maskless and indoors with lobbyists at the tony French Laundry restaurant the same week he warned against Thanksgiving gatherings. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, having her hair done and joining in a riotous Joe Biden victory celebration in violation of her own restrictions — then having the gall to call her actions “essential activities.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, unmasked at a...

It comes as no surprise that, as we move ever deeper into the last of the last days, a foreshadow of the coming man of lawlessness can be seen in the latest doings of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. He has commanded that all worship services be severely limited in attendance, and that other draconian restrictions be put into place, ostensibly because of the supposed resurgence in the number of cases of COVID-19. I say “supposed” because there is growing evidence that the numbers are greatly overestimated and that lockdowns, like masks, do little to slow the coronavirus spread. And,...

What the L? Gov. Cuomo rocked the regional transportation world this week when he cheered a report suggesting that the existing cross-Hudson tunnels between New Jersey and New York don’t need a full shutdown to rebuild them, potentially throwing yet another wrench into the plan to build a new pair of tunnels to boost interstate rail capacity, a $13-billion piece of the Gateway Project. It’s the latest baffling twist in the decade-plus-long saga. On Sunday, the governor suggested that a report done for the Port Authority by consultants London Bridge Associates showed that the existing century-old tunnels could be fixed...

In totalitarian societies, governments suppress the church and religious worship. That's because dictators believe citizens should worship them as the highest authority and not a Higher Authority, which they view as a threat to their power and position. In the United States, the threat to religious liberty has been under siege for some time. Last week's Thanksgiving gift to believers from the Supreme Court may be only a temporary reprieve from government's assault on faith and conscience. The narrow 5-4 ruling serves as a warning the threat is not over. The court majority ruled that Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New...

A few days ago, I wrote on the 5-4 decision by the Supreme Court to strike down Andrew Cuomo’s clearly unconstitutional COVID regulations. They were clearly unconstitutional because they specifically and unfairly targeted religious institutions. Cuomo didn’t even really attempt to make a salient case, as one simply doesn’t exist. His rules have been arbitrary and discriminatory, worrying more about Jewish kids going to school than mass protests in the street. Neil Gorsuch eviscerated Cuomo in response (see Neil Gorsuch Murders Andrew Cuomo, Twitter Murders John Roberts) Justice Gorsuch finally puts words to the thoughts of many. #SCOTUS pic.twitter.com/sXdvtkDm7x —...

The nerves of the world frayed by an authoritarianism imposed on all of us by the forces of Big Government (All Major Established Political Parties Worldwide) and Big Business in the name of "health and safety" and the drama of politicians demanding money so we can elect US Senators who will supposedly defend our freedom from a "socialist, communist President Joe Biden". The socialism and communism is already here, the whole world is Venezuela... God forbid you would learn of the Danish study of six thousand, a real scientific study. It revealed that the difference between wearing the face diaper...

Thanksgiving is a time to look back in gratitude on all that has been good in the past year. It’s also a chance to award the bad — and politicians have given lots from which to pick. Below, we award some of the dumbest or most blatantly hypocritical politicians. The Easily Foreseen Consequences Award: Minneapolis City CouncilEarlier this month, the Minneapolis City Council spent nearly $500,000 to hire outside police to help protect the city from a rise in crime, violence, and shootings. The council may not have needed to make the expenditure had they not voted to eliminate the...

Last night, it was announced that the Supreme Court had put the kibosh on Andrew Cuomo’s clearly unconstitutional COVID regulations. For months now, New York has selectively enforced bans on gatherings, targeting religious institutions while allowing mass protests to occur in the street. Even someone with a passing understanding of the law could ascertain that such was clearly discriminatory and illegal. And while Amy Coney Barrett garnered the headlines for the 5-4 decision, it was Neil Gorsuch who actually did the rhetorical and legal beheading.Justice Gorsuch finally puts words to the thoughts of many. #SCOTUS pic.twitter.com/sXdvtkDm7x— Chaskel Bennett (@ChaskelBennett) November 26,...

Alas, we have a victory for religious freedom in the COVID lockdown era. The Supreme Court recently ruled that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo illegally targeted churches in his COVID lockdown order—and Justice Amy Coney Barrett was the deciding vote. In the 5-4 decision, the Court ruled Cuomo’s edict violated First Amendment rights (via NYT): The Supreme Court late Wednesday night barred restrictions on religious services in New York that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo had imposed to combat the coronavirus. The vote was 5 to 4, with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and the court’s three liberal members in...

As coronavirus cases surge again nationwide the Supreme Court late Wednesday temporarily barred New York from enforcing certain attendance limits at houses of worship in areas designated as hard hit by the virus. The justices split 5-4 to bar the state from enforcing the restrictions against the groups for now, with new Justice Amy Coney Barrett in the majority. It was the conservative's first publicly discernible vote as a justice. The court’s three liberal justices and Chief Justice John Roberts dissented

Chief Justice Roberts sided with the court's liberals in the dissenting opinion he U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday night blocked New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo from reimposing strict attendance caps at worship services in areas hit hard by the novel coronavirus. The court voted 5-4 to bar Cuomo from enforcing his Oct. 6 “Cluster Initiative” against houses of worship that sued to challenge the restrictions.

Andrew Cuomo is set to receive an Emmy award for his daily televised press briefings during the pandemic, the Academy announced on Friday. The Academy said Cuomo will be acknowledged for "his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world." Cuomo said he found the Emmy recognition "flattering" and that he was going to accept it on behalf of New Yorkers. The recent announcement has received criticism, with some people saying it ignores the problems the state experienced during the pandemic. New York governor Andrew Cuomo is set to...

Where has the coronavirus gone? Nowhere. The pandemic has gained a second wind, even as it is mysteriously scarcer in post-election headlines. If anything, COVID-19 seems more contagious as cold temperatures arrive, people stay in indoors and perhaps their vitamin D levels taper off. Whatever one's views on the virus -- whether it remains an existential threat or, contrarily, prompts overreactive lockdowns that are more harmful and maybe even deadlier than the virus itself -- nothing much has changed since Election Day. Or did viral perceptions suddenly change? The pandemic certainly no longer serves as an election lever to demagogue...

Sources tell NY1 the MTA is proposing deep service cuts to subways and bus that could mean long waits between trains and longer walks to the bus stop, plus nearly 10,000 workers laid off. The MTA is planning to present the plan to its board during its Wednesday meeting. MTA officials have threatened 40 to 50 percent transit cuts and layoffs unless the agency gets $12 billion it requested from Washington D.C. The plan obtained by NY1 shows that on weekends, trains could run every 15 minutes, with longer waits between trains on weekdays, and even potential, unspecified suspensions in...

The group Justice Democrats, which helped elect Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other members of the left-wing “Squad,” recoiled Tuesday at President-elect Joe Biden’s White House staff picks. The influential organization’s public rebuke reflects an internal Democratic Party power struggle two months before Biden takes office. “A Biden administration dominated by corporate-friendly insiders will not help usher in the most progressive Democratic administration in generations… progressives find corporate-friendly Biden appointments unacceptable” the organization wrote on Twitter.

New York Governor and nursing home serial killer Andrew Cuomo’s recent interview by George Stephanopoulos on Disney/ABC’s Good Morning America proved an oft-repeated statement by Sean Hannity: Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday night put the “leftist media” in its place, saying that if President Donald Trump “could actually cure cancer,” the “media still wouldn’t be happy.” The news that thanks to President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, drugmaker Pfizer has a vaccine that is 90 percent effective against COVID-19 and is ready to roll thanks to $2 billion from and a distribution infrastructure built by the Trump administration, did...
