Andrew Cuomo is set to receive an Emmy award for his daily televised press briefings during the pandemic, the Academy announced on Friday.
The Academy said Cuomo will be acknowledged for "his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world."
Cuomo said he found the Emmy recognition "flattering" and that he was going to accept it on behalf of New Yorkers.
The recent announcement has received criticism, with some people saying it ignores the problems the state experienced during the pandemic.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo is set to receive an Emmy award for his daily televised press briefings during the coronavirus pandemic, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced on Friday.
According to a statement issued on the Academy's website, Cuomo will receive the International Emmy Founders Award for his "leadership" during the pandemic and "his masterful use of television to inform and calm people around the world."
"The governor's 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure," the president and CEO of the International Academy, Bruce Paisner, said in the statement.
"People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back," he added.
According to the Academy's website, the award is presented to an individual or organization who "crosses cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity."

And will bash Trump in his acceptance speech.
LMAO.
I agree 100%. If anyone deserves an Emmy for showing leadership during his press briefings it’s President Trump.

Hilarious. ..except to the ones he killed and their families
I think we’ve entered the world of North Korea where the dictator (not the current guy) was praised for getting 18 hole-in-ones the first time he goes golfing.
Our leaders here in the US (if Democrat) are just super awesome and deserving of all awards.
Andrew Cuomo will “win” a emmy for “The Killing Fields”.
He literally kills 10,000+ people by moving infected people into nursing homes and bypassing the hospitals and denying the HCQ medicine known to work and these sycophant will applaud for people to be murdered by the democrat party. Same for obama whose policies led to multiple wars and over a million dead in the mideast and Libya. They also praise every dictator there is and support socialism and communism.
The difference between socialism and communism is the communists are in a hurry.
But would the Emmy staff put their elderly loved ones into New York nursing homes? No.
Democrats hare corrupted everything. It’s breathtaking.
Sheesh..and emmy for press conferences?
Is this kind of like Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize
lol - the first actual murder emmy.
The commies are here.
He should get an acid enema; not an emmy. He’s so full of it.
So, if a posthumous award is one given where the recipient is dead, what is the award called when it is given on behalf of the dead?
Cuomo certainly deserves recognition for all of the elderly he killed.
Perhaps from a firing squad.
So, just a normal day for Gov. Cuomo.
Rewriting history...
I assume this to be a joke?
I assume this to be a joke?
Welll, dems need those awards to keep their spirits up....It’s hard work murdering people and keeping the sheep in line..
