How else to describe his comments on Fox News Live only moments ago? This is not an exact quote but here is the gist of what he said from memory: "Why are we having all these terror alerts? I think people are getting tired of them. I wish we could go back to the way it was before when we were thwarting terrorists and nobody ever knew anything. I would rather our intelligence community just thwart the terrorists, if they can, without telling us anything about it." Huh? One is left wondering how in the world Mr. Crowley ever came...

Hastert Reveals Three Other Planes Hit Distress /// Buttons Tuesday... Amid the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) informed Members at a closed-door briefing Tuesday night that three commercial planes overseas had pressed their "terrorist button" and were still in the air as of 5:30 that evening. Although someone on the plane had pressed the device designed to indicate a hijacking, Hastert reported that there was no foul play involved on the planes and that intelligence officials were simply responding to "false alarms," ROLLCALLDAILY reports...

A local dive shop owner says FBI agents are wasting their time scouring Keys dive shops for information about suspicious people who took scuba classes. On May 23, the FBI released a warning that some terrorists had been seeking "an offensive scuba diver capability." Concerned that future terrorist attacks might come by sea, the bureau apparently is compiling a database of all the country's certified scuba divers. "Why spin your wheels interviewing the dive shops when they should be going right to PADI?" asked Capt. Bill Grosscup, owner of Captain's Corner on Greene Street. The Professional Association of Diving Instructors,...

POLITICS IN BRIEF Kucinich says alert used as scare tactic 12/28/2003 The Bush administration is using elevated terror alerts for political gain, Democrat Dennis J. Kucinich said. The Ohio representative, campaigning at a library services company in central New Hampshire on Friday, said that if administration officials have information about terror threats, they should act on it, instead of advertising the threat to scare Americans. "Why didn't they just put extra security out?" he asked. "They are building up fear to become more powerful politically." Kucinich, who will begin airing TV ads in New Hampshire on Jan. 4, said he...
