Marie Harf, a deputy spokeswoman for the State Department under the Obama administration, is joining Fox News as a contributor. Fox News announced Monday that Harf, a Democrat, "will offer national security and political analysis" and that she will begin appearing on air Monday. Harf was often a subject of ridicule, mostly by conservatives, for comments she made at the State Department during her tenure.

Weather Channel Meteorologist Jen Delgado is facing sharp criticism and some are asking for her to be fired after she blamed Haiti's deforestation in part to hungry children eating trees. In a weather report as Hurricane Matthew prepared to make landfall in Haiti, Delgado noted that Haiti suffers from a deforestation problem. "They take all the trees down, they burn the trees," and she continued with a curious claim, "Even the kids there, they're so hungry, they actually eat the trees."

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid rose to a four-month high last week, although the increase partly reflects seasonal distortions around the spring holidays. The Labor Department says weekly applications increased 28,000 to a seasonally adjusted 385,000. That is the highest level since late November. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, rose to 354,250.
