The 2018 Winter Olympics were in full swing and Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and head of their Propaganda and Agitation Department, had bizarrely become a liberal media darling. Despite the fact her job entailed censorship and glorifying public executions, numerous outlets had touted her for “stealing the show,†winning “diplomatic gold,†being the “Ivanka Trump of North Korea,†and hyping the extremely creepy North Korean cheerleading corp. CNN, who has a history of climbing into bed with murderous regimes (Iraq and Saddam Hussein) to stay relevant, was one of the more notable...

It's day 4! I didn't stay up all night and watch events live, so I'll have to settle for canned Olympics.

The mainstream media’s glorification of totalitarian hellholes won’t strike anyone familiar with 20th century history as new, but this weekend’s coverage of North Korea’s regime at the Olympics would make even former New York Times journalist Walter Duranty blush. As the 2018 Olympics Winter Games began in South Korea, reporters from various networks clapped like seals at North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un’s pathetic attempt at charming journalists into accepting his regime as legitimate, choosing to woo them over with synchronized cheer squads and having his sister Kim Yo Jong leer at Vice President Mike Pence.

The 2018 Winter Olympics have arrived and the spotlight isn't only on the athletes. The world is keeping a close eye on the skills, performance, and fashion of announcers, too, and on day one of competitions when people wanted a hot new Olympics meme Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski volunteered as tribute. The professional figured skaters showed up looking like announcers for The Hunger Games and Twitter was shook. The two got their hair did and busted out their best maroon sequins numbers for the big night. It was straight up Caesar Flickerman and Effie Trinket in that arena. Josh...

The first two openly gay male U.S. winter Olympians are doubling down on their feud with Vice President Pence over his record on LGBTQ rights. Freeskier Gus Kenworthy posted a photo on Instagram of himself and figure skater Adam Rippon with a caption that calls out Pence, who is leading the U.S. delegation to the 2018 Olympics, by name. Rippon was named to the U.S. Olympic team first, making history as the first openly gay man to represent the country in the Winter Olympics. Kenworthy was named to the team a few weeks later. “The Opening Ceremony is a wrap...

It’s time for another Olympics, which means it’s once again time for the world’s finest athletes to parade about in a bunch of flag-themed outerwear. My boss thought it would be a good idea to give an overview of what these proud Olympians will be wearing in PyeongChang, even though I shop at places that have “Outlet” and “Maxx” in their names and have worn a tie to work approximately once in my 20 years at The Washington Post. I am, by any measure, deeply unfashionable and thus wholly unsuited for this assignment. But please, read on.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang on Friday night was one for the history books as an openly gay athlete marched with Team USA for the first time in the history of the Winter Games. And it was not just one out-and-proud American who entered the newly constructed stadium in South Korea for the kick-off to the 16-day affair, but three: freestyle skiier Gus Kenworthy, figure skater Adam Rippon and speed skater Brittany Bowe.

If recent trends continue, it’ll only get worse. ... NBC* paid $963 million for the rights to air the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, a 24 percent jump over the $775 million it paid for the last Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. ... Viewership declines aren’t really surprising, as similar trends have unfolded across the TV landscape and viewers opt for on-demand and online entertainment alternatives. Even football and the Super Bowl — considered the last holdouts where advertisers could guarantee huge live audiences would be watching — are not immune.

Impersonators of President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea in a call for peace between the U.S. and North Korea. The two impersonators were spotted at the ceremony, with the man taking on Trump wearing a “USA” hat. The Kim impersonator told Reuters that the two men decided to appear together in Seoul “to show the world this is what peace could look like when two leaders get along.” “We get along personally, so I believe that Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, if they talked, they’d...

While only 22 North Korean athletes are competing at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, they can be guaranteed of a rapturous welcome at their events. An astonishing 229 cheerleaders dominated the 280-member delegation that crossed the demilitarised zone dividing the two Koreas at a post north of Seoul on February 7. Previously heralded as North Korea’s “army of beauties”, the women turned heads and made global headlines in their matching travel outfits of fur-trimmed scarlet coats, fur hats and ankle boots. Their retro glam style – think the Duchess of Cambridge’s Christmas Day church outfit crossed with the rigid chic of...

The astonishing number is reportedly 10,000 more than the number of condoms distributed to athletes during the previous Winter Olympics held in Sochi, Russia. In fact, it breaks the record of the most number of condoms prepared for all participants in the history of Winter Olympics. According to the outlet, the amount will be allotted to 2,925 athletes representing 90 countries that will stay in the Olympic Village. That means each athlete gets approximately 37 condoms for the duration of the event, which will run from February 9 to February 25. To put it into perspective, that’s about 2.5 condoms...

The U.S. Olympic Committee says it’s taking its most diverse team ever to a Winter Games, an impressive and deserved boast that requires a caveat of sorts. Yes, USOC officials are pleased the team includes more African Americans and Asian Americans — and even the first two openly gay men — than recent winter squads. But they also realize this year’s U.S. Olympic team, not unlike those of most other nations gathering in PyeongChang this week, is still overwhelmingly white.

Fred Warmbier, the father of Otto Warmbier, reportedly will travel to South Korea to attend the Winter Olympic Games as a guest of Vice President Mike Pence.Warmbier, according to a report by The Washington Post Sunday, will make the trip to Pyeongchang this week to attend the Opening Ceremony — the official kickoff to the two-week long Games, scheduled for Feb. 9.Fred’s son, Otto, was 22 years old when he died in June following 15 months of imprisonment in North Korea.Fred and his wife, Cindy, have said their son — a University of Virginia student who was arrested in North Korea...

Already a record has been smashed ahead of this month's Winter Olympics in South Korea - for the largest number of free condoms handed out at a Winter Games, organisers say. A total of 110,000 contraceptive sheaths will be distributed before the beginning of the games on Friday week (9 February) - 10,000 more than at Vancouver in 2010 or Sochi in 2014.

A member of the U.S. men’s figure skating team got his leotard in a twist because Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to lead the U.S. Olympic delegation to South Korea in February.Adam Rippon, the 2016 U.S. men’s figure skating, pitched a particularly nasty hissy fit — telling USA Today he would prefer not to shake the vice president’s hand before the opening ceremony.Mr. Rippon is believed to be the first openly gay Winter Olympian — and he took great umbrage at the vice president’s devout Christian faith.“You mean Mike Pence, the same Mike Pence that funded gay conversion therapy?”...

Don’t bother telling Joe Rockenbach your curling jokes. He’s heard them all. As president of his local curling club, Rockenbach has listened to people tell him that curling is not a real sport. Or about how curlers must be skilled house cleaners because their sport involves sweeping. Those comments used to irk Rockenbach, a 37-year-old Philadelphia native, but he’s seen the game humble enough people that now the slights slide right off. “Almost anybody who comes into it with the attitude of, ‘This is nothing, I got this,’ when they get off the ice, [they say], ‘this was way different...

Megyn Kelly will be staying home next month when her fellow NBC stars travel to South Korea for the Olympics — raising new questions about the standing of NBC News’ highest paid star. The Olympics is a command performance for any high-profile star or executive at the Peacock Network, which has paid nearly $1 billion to broadcast the 2018 Pyeongchang Games in the United States. While it’s unclear if Kelly made the decision to stay home herself, it’s unusual nonetheless. NBC traditionally sends its entire panoply of news stars to the games, and true to form, both the “Today” show...

(ATR) According to preliminary reports, United States Vice President Mike Pence will travel to South Korea in February for the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to make the official announcement within the next 24 hours, according to a spokesperson for the National Security Council. “President Trump has committed to sending a high-level United States delegation to the Winter Olympics and looks forward to announcing the delegation soon,” the spokesperson said according to Reuters. The expected announcement follows the first high-level diplomatic talks between North and South Korea in two years that were held in the...

Olympic gold medal skier Lindsey Vonn sparked a backlash when she said she will represent the United States at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, in February, but not the president. Vonn also said she would "absolutely not" accept an invitation to the White House if she were to win a gold medal. On "Fox & Friends Weekend" this morning, fellow Olympic gold medalist Mike Eruzione said Vonn has the right to make her own decisions, but he disagrees and believes it's important to respect the presidency.

President Trump's administration is apparently considering whether it's safe for U.S. athletes to compete at the February 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Nikki Haley, America's ambassador to the United Nations said Thursday that threats linked to the standoff between Washington and Pyongyang over Kim Jong Un's development of intercontinental ballistic missiles made American participation "an open question." Concern is appreciated, but the threat is unfounded. White House press secretary Sarah Sanders says "no official decision has been made." Sanders then lent some hope on Thursday that America would participate, but we worry that further North Korean missile...
