A case in Washington State represents the first use of DNA evidence from trees during a prosecution in a federal criminal trial. The group removed highly-prized Maple trees - used to produce musical instruments such as violins and guitars - and forged permits to sell the wood, according to a statement from the U.S. attorney's office Western District of Washington. Forest Service testified that the wood Wilke sold was a genetic match to the remains of three poached maple trees that investigators had discovered in the Elk Lake area. The DNA analysis was so precise that it found the probability...

Guess this was one tax hike that hit too close to home for Nancy Pelosi. The speaker of the House of Representatives — who is reportedly the sixth-wealthiest member of Congress at over $100 million — took issue late last month with plans by fellow Democrats to levy a tax on unrealized capital gains to help pay for President Biden’s massive $1.75 trillion social spending bill, according to a report. The California Democrat reportedly described the wealth tax as “a publicity stunt.”

A federal judge on Wednesday rejected a bid by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich to block President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for federal employees and contractors. U.S. District Court Judge Michael Liburdi, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, said he was not buying arguments that it’s illegal for the president to impose such a mandate when he is not requiring the same of people entering the country illegally. Liburdi, a Trump appointee, suggested he was not convinced Biden’s mandate forces anyone to do anything or that anyone’s rights of “bodily integrity” were being violated — something Brnovich argued.

Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families has opened a new National Veterans Resource Center to help more veterans and military families thrive. The Institute for Veterans and Military Families has operated since 2011. The new resource center is designed to enhance collaborative efforts to help veterans as they transition into civilian life. "It's typically not about knowledge, skills and abilities. It's more about culture and fit," Mike Haynie, founder and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, told News 3 anchor Todd Corillo. "I'm a veteran myself, I served 14 years in active duty. I...

A Norfolk doctor has filed a lawsuit against Sentara Norfolk General Hospital this week. This is the latest update in the News 3 investigation: “Norfolk doctor leading charge for controversial COVID-19 treatment.” In this lawsuit, Doctor Paul Marik , the director of the hospital's critical care unit, says Sentara's ban of its use to treat patients with ivermectin is deadly and against the law. "I think it's criminal. It's immoral and it's illegal," Marik said. "Can you understand the toll that that takes that I have young patients, young patients in the 30s and 40s, who I had to watch...

Explanation: NGC 1333 is seen in visible light as a reflection nebula, dominated by bluish hues characteristic of starlight reflected by interstellar dust. A mere 1,000 light-years distant toward the heroic constellation Perseus, it lies at the edge of a large, star-forming molecular cloud. This telescopic close-up spans about two full moons on the sky or just over 15 light-years at the estimated distance of NGC 1333. It shows details of the dusty region along with telltale hints of contrasty red emission from Herbig-Haro objects, jets and shocked glowing gas emanating from recently formed stars. In fact, NGC 1333 contains...

Hunter Biden checked out of a Manhattan hotel Thursday following a party to celebrate his solo art show — as controversy over the $500,000 price tags on some of his paintings apparently killed a plan to open the exhibit to the public. The first son didn’t comment as he and wife Melissa Cohen — both wearing red outfits — left the Greenwich Hotel with their 1-1/2-year-old son, Beau, shortly before noon. The night before, the novice, self-taught artist joined about 60 guests — including President Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens — at the Georges Berges Gallery in Soho, where Hunter...

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and senior aides holed up in a nuclear command bunker on Thursday to simulate an outbreak of a vaccine-resistant COVID-19 variant to which children are vulnerable, describing such an eventuality as “the next war”. Israel would brief foreign leaders next week on the findings of the drill, he said, citing Britain’s Boris Johnson as among counterparts with whom he is in contact. Bennett said that, to enhance the challenge of the one-day exercise, he had been kept unaware of specific scenarios of an imagined 10-week crisis that starts over the December holidays.

WASHINGTON — One caller instructed Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois to slit his wrists and “rot in hell.” Another told Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska that they hoped he slipped and fell down a staircase. The office of Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York has been inundated with angry messages tagging her as a “traitor.” Investing in the nation’s roads and bridges was once considered one of the last realms of bipartisanship in Congress, and President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill drew ample support over the summer from Republicans in the Senate. But in the days since 13 House Republicans broke...

President Joe Biden’s vaccine coercion mandate will rely on snitches for enforcement. When Biden announced the pending mandate requiring businesses with 100 or more employees to compel the COVID-19 vaccine, he hoped it would force over 100 million workers to get the jab. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, however, currently only employs 1,850 inspectors, which the agency notes is “about one compliance officer for every 70,000 workers.” This shortage of oversight has already sparked enforcement using tattletale workers and union representatives who report businesses that are not following the Emergency Temporary Standard related to COVID-19 protocols and health care facilities.OSHA...

Congressional Democrats fervently hyped the infamous dossier by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele but have been noticeably silent, even defiant, after Special Counsel John Durham further discredited the already debunked document. Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, dramatically read some of the most explosive claims from the dossier into the Congressional Record during the March 2017 House Intelligence Committee hearing, including the now-debunked claim that the Trump 2016 presidential campaign colluded with Russia.

Liberty Counsel filed a reply brief and additional affidavits supporting the need for immediate relief for plaintiffs from all five branches of the military, federal employees, and federal civilian contractors who have been unlawfully mandated to get the COVID shots or face dishonorable discharge from the military or termination from employment. The preliminary injunction hearing for the class action lawsuit against Joseph R. Biden, the U.S. Secretary of the Department of Defense, and the U.S. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security will be on Monday, November 15 at 9 a.m., in the Middle District Court of Florida. The short...

The Royal British Columbia Museum in Vancouver announced last week that it would close sections of its First Peoples galleries, beginning this month. In January, the entire wing, located on the museum’s third floor, will close. The closure comes in response to calls by Indigenous activists to change how the museum discusses the colonization of British Columbia, privileging the stories of settlers over the Indigenous peoples who had long lived on the land. “Decolonization of the museum’s galleries is important and long overdue,” said Daniel Muzyka, the museum’s acting CEO, in a statement. Closing the gallery, he added, is “necessary...

Two alleged Capitol rioters claimed they are being “force fed” critical race theory in a Washington, D.C., jail where they have been detained. Ryan Nichols of Texas and Robert Morss of Pennsylvania wrote a letter to a D.C. federal judge on Tuesday alleging that they have endured “constitutional, human, and civil rights violations." Among a list of 77 grievances, the men allege that they must beg for water and medical aid, and that they are not allowed religious services or visitors.
