WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday warned Texas Governor Greg Abbott to "immediately rescind" a new executive order aimed at curbing the travel into the state of undocumented immigrants who may pose a risk of transmitting COVID-19. "The order violates federal law in numerous respects, and Texas cannot lawfully enforce the executive order against any federal official or private parties working with the United States," Garland told Abbott in a letter. He added that if Texas continues to implement the ground restrictions on migrants, then the Justice Department will "pursue all appropriate legal remedies."

SYDNEY, July 29 (Reuters) - Australia's military will help enforce a lockdown in Sydney after the city of 6 million posted a record daily rise in COVID-19 cases on Thursday and state authorities said the outbreak was likely to get worse. The lockdown of Australia's biggest city has increased pressure on Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who is now trailing in opinion polls, and heightened concern that Australia's A$2 trillion ($1.5 trillion) economy could slide into recession. Despite an extended lockdown in Sydney since an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta variant, 239 new locally acquired coronavirus cases were recorded in...

“Seeding the Cosmos for Life” –From Supernova to Super Bubbles Posted on Jul 29, 2021 in Astrobiology, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Science Supernova explosions release as much energy in a second as our Sun will in its entire 10-billion year existence. Without supernovae, “there would be no computer chips, trilobites, Mozart or the tears of a little girl,” wrote science writer Clifford A. Pickover. When a massive star explodes at the end of its life, the explosion ejects essential elements – carbon, oxygen, and iron – that form the basis for life across the universe. The supernovae also release tremendous amounts of radiative,...

New recommendations from federal health officials this week on when vaccinated Americans should don face masks came with a startling bolt of news: People who have had their shots and become infected with the delta variant of the coronavirus can harbor large amounts of virus just like unvaccinated people. That means they could become spreaders of the disease and should return to wearing masks indoors in certain situations, including when vulnerable people are present. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did not publish the new research. In the text of the updated masking guidance, the agency merely cited...

Sen. Ted Cruz ripped the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wednesday, saying the agency had “destroyed their credibility” with their “absurd” recommendation that vaccinated people wear masks indoors in areas of “substantial” or “high” coronavirus transmission. “That’s not science. That’s politics. It’s pure politics,” the Texas Republican told Fox News’ “Hannity”. “You know what? Yesterday, vaccines worked. Today, they still work, but as a political matter, the Democrats decided they want to control your lives, they want everyone to wear a mask, and my view is real simple: We shouldn’t have federal government mandates on COVID.

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) - Federal workers and onsite contractors will have to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or wear masks, practice social distancing and submit to regular testing under sweeping new guidelines the White House announced on Thursday. The measures are U.S. President Joe Biden's latest effort to spur some reluctant Americans to get vaccinated as the Delta variant of the coronavirus ravages the unvaccinated in particular. Government employees who do not show they have been vaccinated will be subject to weekly or twice-weekly COVID-19 tests and restrictions on official travel. "The administration will encourage employers across the...

[Catholic Caucus] Replying to JD Flynn (Pillar): Traditionis Custodes and the Authority of the PopeIn the Pillar, JD Flynn criticises ‘the siren voices calling for disobedience, or casting into doubt the authority of the Vicar of Christ’. He has earlier quoted Cardinal Raymond Burke, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, and Bishop Robertus Mutsaerts, but he leaves it to his readers to connect what he quotes them as saying with ‘calls for disobedience’ and ‘casting into doubt the authority of the Vicar of Christ’. This seems on the face of it a serious injustice, and a failure to give these individuals the respect...

On this episode of The Resistance Library Podcast, Sam and Dave discuss George Soros. Of course you’ve heard the name “George Soros,” often invoked as a sort of folk demon on the American and international right, it’s likely that you have some vague notion of why you think he’s a bad guy, or maybe you think the whole thing is a bunch of hype. However, if you’re a freedom lover, there’s nothing “hype” about the influence that George Soros has around the world attacking your freedom. Indeed, you probably vastly underestimate the influence that he has on politics. From the...

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson on Thursday declared a public health emergency amid a surge in COVID-19 cases and announced a special legislative session to change a law that prevents public schools from requiring masks. Hutchinson said the declaration will allow the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management to seek staffing assistance from health workers outside the state. It also eases the process for retired health workers to re-enter the workforce and for medical students to become licensed. The Republican governor said the White House is sending federal assistance at his request. A previous emergency declaration expired May 30...

Many conservatives aren’t on TikTok over valid privacy concerns that their data collected by its Beijing-headquartered parent company ByteDance can be shared with the Chinese Communist Party. In fact, the app was deemed such a threat to national security by intelligence officials in the Trump administration that the former president tried to ban the platform in U.S. app stores last summer.

Most of Joe Biden’s polling has been fair to middling, with approval for his performance on COVID-19 hiding the unpopularity of his other policies. However, like the boyfriend who seems so great until you realize he never puts the toilet seat down and leaves his dirty socks on the floor, America appears to be waking up. Some recent Rasmussen polls drive the point home. The trend among likely voters in the Daily Presidential Tracking Poll is clear. It appears the flip-flop on CDC mask guidance is rubbing Americans the wrong way. For the last three days, total disapproval has been...

As Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi picks members of a select committee to investigate the riots of January 6, a new poll finds that many Americans believe she’s focusing on the wrong riots. One-third more Americans believe Congress should hold investigative hearings about last summer’s “Black Lives Matter protests that sparked violence” than think lawmakers ought to probe the riot at the capitol on January 6. In all, two out of three likely U.S. voters say they believe Congress should open an official investigation into “the violent protests” which blazed a trail of arson and looting through major and...

The Capitol Police say this is the same rule that was previously in place and there's "no reason" a situation should have to escalate to an arrest. "Regarding the House rules about masks, there is no reason it should ever come to someone being arrested," the USCP said in a statement to Fox News. "Anyone who does not follow the rules will be asked to wear a mask or leave the premises. The Department’s requirement for officers to wear masks is for their health and safety." Pelosi's office said she did not order police to begin arresting people because it's...
