Is this the first ever portrait of Jesus? The incredible story of 70 ancient books hidden in a cave for nearly 2,000 yearsBy Nick Pryer

The image is eerily familiar: a bearded young man with flowing curly hair. After lying for nearly 2,000 years hidden in a cave in the Holy Land, the fine detail is difficult to determine. But in a certain light it is not difficult to interpret the marks around the figures brow as a crown of thorns.
The extraordinary picture of one of the recently discovered hoard of up to 70 lead codices booklets found in a cave in the hills overlooking the Sea of Galilee is one reason Bible historians are clamouring to get their hands on the ancient artefacts.
If genuine, this could be the first-ever portrait of Jesus Christ, possibly even created in the lifetime of those who knew him.
The tiny booklet, a little smaller than a modern credit card, is sealed on all sides and has a three-dimensional representation of a human head on both the front and the back. One appears to have a beard and the other is without. Even the makers fingerprint can be seen in the lead impression. Beneath both figures is a line of as-yet undeciphered text in an ancient Hebrew script. Astonishingly, one of the booklets appears to bear the words Saviour of Israel one of the few phrases so far translated.
The owner of the cache is Bedouin trucker Hassan Saida who lives in the Arab village of Umm al-Ghanim, Shibli. He has refused to sell the booklets but two samples were sent to England and Switzerland for testing.

I think it’s a picture of a piece of toast.
Looks like a lump of imperfection in the metal to me.
With that square chin, it looks more like a lion. And that would make sense in that land.
Thanks for the link!
With the NET, it’s getting harder and harder to pass of fakes
(or fake news, as CBS found out with Dan Rather...)
Everyone knows Jesus had blue eyes. I saw the picture myself!
Funny, He doesn’t LOOK Jewish.
Left to Right: Jesus, Jieme, Juan, and Beto
Looks like a grilled cheese sandwich to me.
I can read one of the pages fairly well.
About some King named jack and some Queen named Jill. Jill killed the king by bashing him in the head with a bucket.
I wish they would publish more pages.
Grilled Cheesus to be more precise.
I don’t know who’s picture it is, but it may have functioned as an ancient waffle press.
Not conclusive to me.
There are discrepancies between this article and the blog you linked. What language is really stamped in the metal? Greek (with misspellings) as your blog stated, or ancient Hebrew, as the article states? Why is the script so fresh and readable, while the portrait is nearly obliterated?
Whose face is depicted anyway? "The Savior of Israel" could refer to any number of people, depending on the time and place the plate was made, from King David to Ben Gurion.
As my former co-worker pointed out, Jesus must be showing off on that resurrection thing—you read about him getting shot every weekend in some neighborhoods.
Maybe, they were just a bad speller.
As soon as they start breaking the seals, we're toast...
Aren’t they saying some use ancient Hebrew and others are in Greek?
