Pastor Max Lucado diagnosed with ascending aortic aneurysm; requests prayers amid 'serious' condition

Pastor Max Lucado has asked for prayers after announcing he has been diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm. The author said he is “trusting our heavenly Father” in the days ahead as he battles the “serious” condition.

Lucado, leader of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, recently shared the news on his website : “I want to take a moment to share with you some personal medical news. Recently I was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm. Because this is a serious condition, I wanted you to hear from me personally.”

“Though surgery is a possibility, none is planned at the moment. The current strategy is to wait, watch, and pray that the aneurysm doesn’t increase any further in size. I am maintaining my normal routines and commitments; my ministry is undisturbed by this news,” he continued.

The 66 year old author said he feels “fine” and is “under the care of an outstanding medical team” and “in the hands of a good God.”

“For now, please know that I am fully trusting our heavenly Father. I am grateful for your prayers for me and for my family,” he concluded.

Johns Hopkins defines an ascending aortic aneurysm as an “abnormal bulging and weakening in your aorta at the point before the curve.”

“If an aortic aneurysm ruptures, it can cause life-threatening bleeding. An aneurysm at risk for rupture needs surgical repair,” it notes.

In a video message accompanying the announcement, Lucado said he received his diagnosis “within the last two weeks.”

“To be honest, it is a serious issue because the aneurysm or the bulge in the aorta is quite sizable,” he said.

The I Will See You in Heaven author promised to post periodic updates to his website and social media as they become available.

The father and grandfather tested positive for COVID-19 in July despite being vaccinated. He has since recovered and has returned to his duties at the church.

Following his announcement, Lucado received an outpouring of support on Twitter, with many sending up prayers for the pastor.

In a recent interview with The Christian Post, Lucado, who is gearing up for the release of his latest book, You Were Made for This Moment: Courage for Today, Hope for Tomorrow , reflected on God’s sovereignty amid difficult circumstances.

Whatever trials come our way, “God is still on the throne, God still has His people, God will still glorify Himself,” he said.

The story of Esther in the Bible, Lucado said, is a reminder that “God is working in our story” even when it’s not evident.

“His fingerprints are on every page of your story,” he said. “Let's just stay focused on the big story. The big story is God's grace, His defeat of death, the Easter celebration, the return of Christ. Keep these big things the big things. Let them change you. Just trust Him.”

I think they start recommending surgery when the ascending aorta reaches 4.5cm. Mine was just over 4.5cm when it was replaced. I also got an artificial aortic valve.

I am going to have to remember the following everytime I fight with my CPAP mask

https://www.everydayhealth.com/aneurysm/prevention-what-you-need-know/
Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with the progression of thoracic aortic and abdominal aortic aneurysms, and can lead to poor outcomes for those with brain aneurysms.

I think dissection is when the layers start coming apart.

I have an AAA too. Discovered accidentally 13 years ago. How long it had been there is unknown. Symmetric. Few mm shy of surgery go. It’s been wait and watch with periodic ultrasound or CT scans. So far has not changed....stable. Progressive enlargement is the red flag. Doc thinks it may be my “normal” diameter from birth. Nevertheless, it’s a very disquieting situation knowing you have a potential hand grenade in your chest.

I also have an aneurysm due to a congenital BAV. How big was yours before they gave you an AAA?

Aortic root one here. It’s not fun to know you have a scythe waiting to take you out.

“Isn’t Lucado “woke” and a proponent of CRT?”

Good grief. Not at all.

My aorta was just over 4.5cm, about 4.7cm or so. I was diagnosed two years ago at age 60. I have always had a heart murmur but no one ever mentioned the possibility of a bicuspid aortic valve. I had chest pains one night went to the doctor a couple of days later and my troponin levels were elevated. I had a cardiac Cath and my cardiac vessels were fairly clean— no stents necessary. They thought the pain and elevated troponin may have been from an aortic dissection but CTs and ultrasounds did not show anything. I had the surgery to my aorta and had a biologic valve replacement. Surgery apparently showed no signs of dissection. Never did figure out what caused the chest pain and elevated troponin. Surgery went ok except one of the chest tubes kinked and would not drain. My chest filled with fluid and I went into A-fib. Had to go back to surgery for more chest tubes

Perry Stone maybe rock solid on subjects like homosexuality, which shouldn’t even be questionable, but I heard him say in a recent video that prayer isn’t prayer, unless it’s spoken.

Where did these charismatics come up with such unscriptural garbage?

Clearly he’s read about Hannah’s prayer for a son... “Now it came about, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli was watching her mouth. As for Hannah, she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were moving, but her voice was not heard.” (1 Samuel 1:12-13)

The Bible called it prayer, though it was inaudible to others.

As for Max Lucado, I lost all respect for him, whatever his belief system, when he came out in 2016, criticizing Trump and Evangelical Christians voting for him.

It’s like these so-called, “men of God,” don’t even believe in redemption or accept the fact that the Church of Jesus Christ is forgiven SINNERS with a vast majority of them having ungodly pasts.

so if it’s that big, then why aren’t they doing the surgery?????

My f-i-l had the surgery and it’s a rough one, but the alternative is for it to rupture, and it’s not “If an aortic aneurysm ruptures, it can cause life-threatening bleeding.”

It *WILL* cause life threatening bleeding. If it ruptures, he’s gone.

Screw that site.

“Hypertension is a risk factor for aneurysms, and in November 2017, the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), and nine other health organizations lowered the guidelines for the diagnosis of hypertension, or high blood pressure, from to 130/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) to 120/80 mm Hg. With the new parameters, about 46 percent of Americans are considered to have high blood pressure. (5)”

That’s as reliable as the 17 intelligence agencies that discovered “Russian Collusion”.
Arbitrary ex-post-facto change to push more drug profits.
