Correct; it was not communism (which denies God), but pure Christianity with apostolic witnesses of Jesus' ministry, death, and resurrection. That is to whom the first church gave the proceeds of the sales of private property. It was completely voluntary, not coerced.

Actually some did claim private ownership, else they would not have had legal title to sell. Not only that, but "no one" could be miscontrued; it only applied to the multitude in Jerusalem (Israelites) who believed (the testimony of the Apostles who were filled with the Holy Spirit) and who were of one heart and of one soul.

So one could view this as a one time occurrence in Jerusalem with a chosen church.

I recently read the following from a commentary in reference to the book of Acts:

We must observe that the act of selling was the owners’, as was the act of handing the proceeds to the Apostles. The community had nothing to do with the money till it had been given to them. Further, the distribution was not determined by the rule of equality, but by the ‘need’ of the recipients; and its result was not that all had share and share alike, but that ‘none lacked.’

Christians should share their goods and wealth as the Holy Spirit leads them. This generally means giving to those who cannot help themselves and giving to the furtherance of the gospel.

The Pope seems to make general statements that do not require restraint and discernment provided by the Holy Spirit, which a Christian needs.

If the Pope wishes to apply his pronouncement of “sharing ownership over everything”, without regard to being led by the Holy Spirit, let me suggest the Roman Catholic church sell ALL of its billions of dollars of priceless artwork, artifacts, antiquities, property, etc. Take those proceeds and all its cash and investment instruments and liquidate ALL. …. Then give the proceeds to the poorest people on earth. The Pope, Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Nuns and all other religious can then get jobs, live in communes and give all their surplus income to the poor. Isn't this what the Pope is suggesting?? Ohh ... he forgot to tell us that his pronouncement/teaching/suggestion doesn't apply to the wealth of the Roman Catholic Church and its religious.

Charity, when led by the Spirit, is the selflessness meant by Christ.

Galatians 5:18–26:
