Do Not Rejoice When Evil People Fall - Proverbs 24:17-18

web counter

Many will not want to hear this, but it’s a message that needs to be said.

As we watch the way the Democrats attack every good thing, while upholding and rewarding all evil, it is natural to desire the day they fall. Yet when that day comes, and it surely will, remember not to celebrate nor rejoice. Instead consider what Solomon wrote in Proverb 24:17-18;

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him,
And He turn away His wrath from him

Proverbs 24:17-18

So if you truly pray for the wicked to meet justice from God, then let God do it, but do not do as they do my rejoicing. For by doing so, you are telling God you are no better than they are. It is a fearful thing to be judged by the Righteous GOD.

Psalm 1:5-6 tells us that only the ungodly will stand in the judgement before GOD'

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 1:5-6
So on the day of judgment, for their evil, GOD will punishment them greatly and eternaly. For as Jesus tells us,

“The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!

Matthew 13:41-43

They will be separated from GOD for eternity, if they never repent of their evil. So do not rejoice when the day of their punishment comes, because you cannot understand the damnation they have cursed themselves to face. Instead pity them, for their punishment will never end.

We are not to be as Jonah was, who hated the Ninevites so much that he didn't even want them to hear GOD's message to repent and be saved. The prophet was angry at their repentance because he would rather see them destroyed. So he refused to share the truth with the Ninivites, and instead headed into the opposite direction. When God finally got him to Ninevah, he admitted his sin and repented.

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
Jonah 4:1-2

Jonah knew from the start that God was gracious and merciful. He realized that if the people of Nineveh repented, God would spare them. There are many reasons for Jonah's hatred for the Nineveh and why he would rather see then destroyed. After all, Nineveh was the capitol of the Assyrian Empire, the Assyrian’s were a heartless, cruel, and evil people; they were great enemies of Israel. Jonah had no love for them, yet GOD wanted to show compassion to them by giving them a chance to repent.

This is why Jesus calls us to be vessels of compassion, and to pray for our enemies to be saved,

Jesus told us in “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
Matthew 5:44-47

Maybe, just maybe some of these many evil people who are in a position of power today will repent, and be used by GOD to turn what is meant for evil into good. However, even if they don't repent, we are called to be the lantern of Christ, so He can shine HIS light of truth and compassion on all. If they do not repent, then when the day comes for their fall, remember to let it be. Then you will be assured they will feel the full punishment of GOD for their evil, lest He remove HIS wrath and they escape their punishment here on earth. So bless them, it will be like pouring hot coals upon their heads.

I pray that those who have ears to hear will hear His voice and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen

Hell was made for Satan and the fallen angels, it was not meant for humans. Yet, when we reject Him unto death we will end up there with Satan.

This is why Jesus forgave those who persecuted him and crucified Him while on the cross. It is the example we must follow, we cannot take hate with us to the grave, because we will lose what God offers through His son.

God grieves the loss of every Human who ends up in Hell, how can we be so callous as to think that we are above it all. If Jesus did it, then we MUST also do it. This means praying that those who persecute us will come to salvation.

If evil people fall get busted for their evil deeds, we must step back and allow God to do His punishment. If we hoot and holler and have a party because they got busted, then that makes us no different than they are. Understand this, you must also not jump for joy in your heart, because God will see how you react in your heart.

Maybe it explains why so many high profile evil men keep getting away with evil in the World. Instead of praying for justice with a heart that has compassion, we are like the guy twisting a knife in their back.

I find myself not rejoicing at all. I feel nothing for evil people who fall.

I turn my attention and prayers instead to the truly innocent people who are hurt by evil people.

2 questions.

What prayer do you say for people who are corrupt (like the you-know-whos?

Is it wrong to feel gladness when justice is served?

I do not rejoice in their falling.
I rejoice in their failing.

Following the point of this thread, I would say that it would be OK to feel relief that the evil had passed. It would also be OK to express thankfulness to God that he had delivered relief. However, one should not gloat over the downfall of the individuals who are brought to justice.

It would also be fine to lament over the evil that had transpired. "Lament" is a genre of the Bible that is not taught well to the Church, but it has a prominent place in Scripture. We are to bring our troubles before God.

BTW: Thanks for this thread, OneVike. This needed to be said.

I’ll be happy and rejoicing just the same. That makes me a sinner. And this is exactly the sort of thing that made me really need a redeemer. So I got one!

There is no problem with feeling good that evil fails. Just don’t hate the people. Difficult, because I struggle with it like everyone. We want to give them the good old fashion treatment we feel they deserve.

Yet Christ is our example, and thus He wanted evil to fail, but He did not relish when humans did, thus He asked His Father to forgive them.

For crimes committed their must be human punishment, but not beyond measure, and don’t start partying. Leave it to God, pray for them, and go one with your business.

It is a horrible thing to hear when an evil person has died and their fate is sealed. I pray for our leaders and rulers to accept our God and His Salvation. Judgement is a sobering thought for we who know Christ Jesus for we know He judges all men. The thing that is important is that we who are in Christ will not be judged as other men who have not Christ in them.

"Just don’t hate the people. "

No, don't allow yourself to hate. Say no to it lest its fires from hell burn out your soul and you become like the evil..

Psalm 137: 7-8-9
7 Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did
on the day Jerusalem fell.
“Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.

I’m afraid that when a Hitler or a Stalin or a Hillary bites it I’m gonna have to feel a very satisfying sense of relief. Maybe I’ll say a few Hail Marys later. But right then it’s pass the Jack.

Nope

There are plenty of examples in Psalms, Proverbs, Galatians, Revelations that are contradictory....

When Sandam died, I was happy for the world that his evil ended and his vile acts avenged...

Hard to rejoice over someone going to hell. Eternity is a long long long time. Horrifying, really...

We should not pray that they should be physically harmed, but IMHO it is ok to pray that the wicked should be stripped of their power. Then again, some of them (Kerry?) should be charged with treason and spend the rest of their life in prison if not worse.

If God does not take joy in the loss of one, what gives you the idea He thinks it is OK for you to do so?

Feel relief the evil is ended, but not for the soul going to hell.

A mother will cry and feel pain in her heart if a son or daughter goes to prison, or the death chamber, even if she knows in her heart they deserved it.

God feels that way when any of us go to hell. We are all His creation, and He takes no pleasure is condemning a child of His to hell.

Why should you?

Speaking of going to hell. He went to his grave as an unrepentant sinner.

Sad, because he was one great artist.

He would have been a great singer for God, if only he did not find the joys of the flesh in this World so alluring.
