The chief of the Swiss Guards, the force that protects the Vatican, has said it is only “a matter of time” before an attack that is inspired or directed by the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) against the home of the Catholic church.
Commander Christoph Graf, speaking to Swiss Catholic news website cath.ch, said that the security force for Pope Francis is prepared for any act of extremism.
“Perhaps it is only a matter of time before an attack like that happens in Rome. But we are ready also for this,” he said. Created in the 16th century, the force is one of the oldest armies in the world and consists solely of young Swiss adult men.
Graf said the guards are there to defend one of the most famous world figures and one of the most important religious sites. Because of their unique uniforms, the guards are popular with tourists.

In particular, he is responsible for the recruitment as well as the compliance of the guard regulations and the orders of his superiors. Furthermore, he is liable for the positive development of the Corps and the maintenance of its discipline.
Colonel Christoph Graf was born on 5th September 1961. His place of origin is Pfaffnau in the canton of Lucerne. He joined the Guard in 1987, is married and father of two children. As Lieutenant Colonel and Vice Commander he was the first adviser to the commander and liaison officer externally, responsible for controlling and had the function of chief of staff. In the past he had been a successful instructor and sergeant major inside the Guard.
On 7th February 2015, he was appointed 35th Commander of the Pontifical Swiss Guard by Pope Francis.

Extremely serious question: If this invasion happened, would Trump want to, and (politically) be able to, summon US forces to counter it? If not, then who?
