LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, August 8, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) -- Confusion, division, and error within the Catholic Church coming from shepherds even at the highest levels indicate that we may be in the end times, said U.S. Cardinal Raymond Burke in an address in Kentucky.
The Cardinal, who spoke at the July 22 Church Teaches Forum in Louisville, said that, in his opinion, the times realistically seem to be apocalyptic.
We are living in most troubled times in the world and also in the Church, he said.
Burke, one of the Churchs leading canon law experts, outlined how evils now commonly accepted in the Wests ravaged culture have now managed to infiltrate the Church, passing from the shepherds to the sheep.
But, in a diabolical way, the confusion and error which has led human culture in the way of death and destruction has also entered into the Church, so that she draws near to the culture without seeming to know her own identity and mission, without seeming to have the clarity and the courage to announce the Gospel of Life and Divine Love to the radically secularized culture, he said.
He cited as one example the recent remarks from the president of the German bishops conference, Cardinal Reinhard Marx, who said that the legalization of same-sex marriage in Germany was not a major concern for the Church. Instead, Marx said that the Church should be more concerned about what he called intolerance towards persons suffering from same-sex attraction.
Silent shepherds
Burke, who is one of the four Cardinals who signed the dubia asking Pope Francis to clarify ambiguities in his teaching, said there are many shepherds who are no longer truly shepherding the faithful entrusted to them.
For whatever reason, many shepherds are silent about the situation in which the Church.......

Ominous words from a man who’s opinion is worthy of respect
I will remain a Catholic no matter what. But it sickens me to think of all the souls that these heretics are turning away from the Church and from the Sacraments.
Yeah, it makes us all yearn for those times when the clergy all agreed that the sale of indulgences and the Inquisition were fitting and proper edifices of the church.
Same here!
it makes us all yearn for those times when the clergy all agreed that the sale of indulgences and the Inquisition. . . .

There was never such a time; however, you do what the pope says whether you like it or not. When you don’t do what he says then it is time to leave The Church, like Martin Luther did.
No doubt some would like one of those back.
No, you don’t “do what the Pope says.” If he’s saying something - basically reaffirming something - that is in line with tradition and the constant teaching of the Church since the time of the Apostles, then you listen to him. If he’s creating his own “teachings” that are in conflict with Tradition or creating “doctrine” about global warming, the glories of Communism and world government or some other secular theme, you don’t have to listen to him at all.
Many Catholics in the pews recognize this, and much of the hierarchy does too - but they are such lily-livered careerists that they’re too scared to say it. Francis is vicious and pretty ruthless, so it’s very possible they’d lose their jobs...but what they would do for the Church by showing a little courage would probably guarantee their entry to Heaven! But they’re just cowardly bureaucrats at heart.
A policy that bit the dust at Nuremberg. I'm pretty sure that Christ indicated that it always makes better sense to do the will of Father rather than any man.
Remember that men chose the pope, not God. A crappy pope is as easy to change as a vacuum tube. Use a hanky when it is hot.(Some remember those)
End Times bump
If you read the article, you’ll see that Cdl Burke specifically demolishes thr notion that Catholicism is whatever the Pope says it is. But the acid test is not “whether I like it or not” but whether this is what the church has always taught or not.

Many believe that the Pope is chosen by God through the Holy Spirit in the college of Cardinals. If you believe that and that The Pope is Christ’s Vicar on earth then you follow the pope.
Perhaps not all believe that a pope is Christ’s Vicar but some do and their willingness to follow him and believe what he says is following God to them and it is a reasonable for them to believe. We aren’t all Martin Luther are we.

I read the article. Actually what Cardinal Burke said was that most of the time that the Pope was not speaking in official capacity as THE POPE for THE CHURCH, mostly he was speaking and writing just as a man with his own opinions. I think the Cardinal was wishing The Pope would not do that so much especially when speaking in a written format.
Ditto
Protestant here, but sincerely pro-orthodox Catholic. I applaud Cardinal Burke for his courageous stand for biblical truth.
You have a fake Marxist Pope who thinks carbon dioxide is a greater threat than Islam.
That is not what the Church herself teaches.
Burke has bee busy making appearances all over the country at “conservative” organizations.
Unfortunately, Burke is still a man of the Vatican II Council and as such is among the shepherds of which he speaks. Confusion, division and error began decades before Amoris Latitia and he is yet to recognize it.
