Pope Francis said he supports the idea of setting a fixed date for Easter Sunday, which for centuries has moved back and forth according to the lunar calendar.
Easter and the Holy Week that precedes it is rooted in the Jewish Passover and fixed on the first full moon, which falls on the first Sunday after the spring equinox, March 21. [ ]
The Orthodox Churches normally celebrate Easter a week after the Catholics. [ ]
Historians and expert agree that a common date for Easter would encourage reconciliation between the Christian churches.

No way. Don’t let Bergoglio anywhere near the Church calendar. I’m not even sure he believes in the Resurrection
I can see changing it so we would calculate the date the same way the Orthodox do, but that’s not a fixed date either.
Have a lot of problems with Francis, but he is being criticized for a poor headline writer. He is not talking fixed date, he is speaking of finding a common celebration with the orthodox. There was a good thread on this here at FR about a week ago.
It has a pope that is out to kill it.
It should always be at the same time of Passover. The date isn’t as important (or it would be in the Holy Scripture)as the events connected to Resurrection Day.

Better article on this subject and the problems of obtaining agreement with the Eastern Orthodox.
NO NO AND NO!!! Pope Francis has obviously partaken of Velikonoce in Czech Republic. It only happens Easter MONDAY!!!
Holy Romans setting the date for ancient Mesopotamian goddess worship, I’m sure The Creator approves. /s
[So throw the Gregorian calendar out the window?]
He already replaced the dove as the symbol of peace with balloons.
I’m not Catholic and therefore this is none of my business. BUT, Fixing the celebration of Easter to a given Sunday in a given month is a great idea.
“Holy Romans setting the date for ancient Mesopotamian goddess worship,”
Jesus Christ was an ancient Mesopotamian godess? Who knew?
1582.
Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Says so right in the Bible.
So how is peace with balloons symbolized now? And when was war with balloons a problem?
I disagree.
You almost have the formula.
This man is almost as bad as our present occupant of the White House.
It is tooooo harrrrd to figure Easter Sunday so let’s keep it simple.
What an embarrassment and humiliation. Never thought I would see the day when a Pope would disgrace us.
LOL! Christmas isn’t always on a Sunday. Forget your <sarc off??
Pardon my sarcasm. :)
Same. I mean, why not? It’s the meaning of it not the date.
