Colombian Bishop Floats Idea of Gay Apostle, Lesbian Mary Magdalene

Bishop Juan Vicente Córdoba says 'no one chooses to be gay or straight'

ROME — A Colombian bishop, insisting that being homosexual is not a sin, said Thursday it’s possible that one of the twelve apostles of Jesus was gay or that Mary Magdalene, another key New Testament figure, was a lesbian.

Bishop Juan Vicente Córdoba of Fontibón, Colombia, also said the Catholic Church does not oppose same-sex couples making a life together, but does not consider such arrangements to be a marriage or a family.

“No one chooses to be gay or straight,” Córdoba said. “One simply feels, loves, experiments, is attracted, and no attraction is bad.”

Córdoba was speaking at a conference about gay marriage and adoption hosted by the local University of Los Andes, at a time when Colombia is debating gay marriage and adoption rights.

Although Córdoba reiterated Church teaching when it comes to marriage – that it’s a union between a man and a woman, permanent, and open to children – he said that homosexuality isn’t a sin.

“Sin is something else. It’s not respecting the dignity of others. Not loving God and our neighbors as we love ourselves, not feeding the hungry, not giving water to the thirsty,” Córdoba said.

He added that he prefers “a thousand times over” for Colombians to have dignity, a proper health system and food for all, rather than talking about whether they’re gay or straight.

According to local reports, Córdoba said that in the Bible there’s no explicit rejection of homosexuality, suggesting there’s no basis for making a condemnation of homosexuality a Church doctrine.

“We don’t know if one of Jesus’ disciples” had a same-sex orientation, he said. “We don’t know either if Mary Magdalene was a lesbian.”

In the New Testament, there are hints that Mary Magdalene, a....

Let’s just admit everyone is gay and always has been.

I’m so tired of everyone being in the closet.

OOPS, Cane = Cain

Genesis 4:16-17 King James Version (KJV)

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

Lots of "begating" ensued and Cain's blood line carried on through Genesis 4:27 and includes Methuselah.

Regards,
GtG

Well, Seth, another son of Adam after Cain, was born when Adam was 130 years old.

Genesis 4:1Now the man [a]had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to [b]Cain, and she said, “I have gotten a [c]manchild with the help of the Lord.” 2 Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Then the second half of verse 2

And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord of the fruit of the ground. 4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for his offering;

So, obviously much time has passed just in verse 2.

Then we come to verse 25

25 Adam had relations with his wife again; and she gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, for, she said, “God has appointed me another offspring in place of Abel, for Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of the Lord.

We have no idea the time period between when Cain killed Abel and when Seth was born. I would think, maybe a few years.

In Genesis 3, God tells Adam and Eve the penalty for there sin.

:16 To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”

To multiply her pain in child birth, implies she was already involved with child birth. Otherwise, how would you multiply something that doesn't already exist?

Point being, if a generation were 20 years, and we used 100 years between Cain being born and when he killed Abel, that would be 5 generations. If generations started at a younger age, such as 13, when some speculate Mary was when pregnant with Jesus, then that could be 8 generations.

If the first generation had 6 kids and then each subsequent generation had 6 kids each.
gen 2 would be 36 kids.
gen 3 would be 216.
gen 4 would be 1296.
gen 5 would be about 7800.
gen 6 would be 46,800.
gen 7 would be about 325,000.
gen 8 would be about 2.6 million.

Immortalized in the song “I Don’t Know How to Love Her.”

One of the most beautiful stories in the Gospel and they just HAVE to twist it up.

Jesus picked Judas and he turned bad. He also picked this man, and he turned bad. It happens folks. He gave us free will and His Love, and some reject it.

Catholics need to get past the “bad bishop” rhetoric. These aren’t just “bad” (ie. immoral) bishops. These are heretic bishops.

Hey Bishop, I think you would be well advised to read Scriptures on what Jesus said about sexual lust. Being ‘homosexual’ is not a sin in itself any more than being ‘heterosexual’ is a sin. The ‘sin’ is in how one reacts to the temptation of attraction to another person (same sex for homos and opposite sex for straight people). You, as a clergyman, should be well aware that sin begins in the mind, well before any physical action occurs. (Matthew 5:27-30). ALL sin, of every kind, begins with a temptation, something we are ALL subject to. It is our REACTION to that temptation that determines if we sin. In 2 Timothy 2:22, Paul’s letter tells us to flee from temptation so that the seed of sinning does not take root.

I do not believe that homosexuality is genetic, as there is no evidence of a ‘gay gene’, but even if it is, Biblically, it makes no difference. Either avoid the temptation, or fight it. Bishop Córdoba is wrong when he says, “No one chooses to be gay or straight, one simply feels, loves, experiments, is attracted, and no attraction is bad.” He should well be aware that Jeremiah 17:9 tells us the heart is deceitful above all things. He should also be aware that 2 Corinthians 5:7 tells us that we are to live by faith, not sight (or feelings). As far as ‘experiments’? What parts of Matthew 5:27-30, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and Romans 1:26-28 cause him confusion?

Sin occurs when one contemplates ANY temptation, allowing it to take hold in one’s mind, rather than ‘capturing’ such thoughts. (2 Corinthians 10:2-6) Therefore, homosexual is not a sin, IF he or she captures thoughts that tempt them, namely, lustful thoughts of those of the same sex, before they contemplate such thoughts, so yes, homosexuality is not a sin. Acting or lusting on any such temptation IS the sin. I’m sure that sincerely, prayerfully asking the Holy Spirit to take such desires from the homosexual and asking Him to protect them from such desires can, and has worked for many.

There are absolute admonitions to homosexuality in the bible. Homosexuality is absolutely a choice just like adultery. This guy is soggy-brained! Everything he says is crap. His leanings are obvious.

I really feel sorry for Mary Magdalene. It was not enough that, with no evidence, they have labeled her a whore but they also now want to label her a lesbian.

Judas could have been a Gay because he lacked character and was evil. I could see it. He was gay and the other apostles wouldn’t take his advances so he spitefully turned Jesus over to die.

Yeah, attraction does not equal behavior. I may be forever stuck attracted to nicotine, but that does not mean that I have to start smoking again. I may have a strong liking for the taste of pizza, donuts, and Reese’s peanut butter candy, but that does not mean I have to eat huge amounts of those foods which contain low nutritional value, and I am just getting started...

Yes, she did struggle with demonic possession, but even I have to conclude that despite some peoples’ assertions, we cannot prove she had a relationship with Jesus, cannot confirm she was a prostitute, and we cannot confirm that she was somehow a lesbian.

FWIW, since there really wasn’t any special kind of surrogate parenting other than actually having a one-night stand with a man back in those days, well, exclusive homosexuality wasn’t really an attractive option, because you pretty much needed to do it with the opposite gender to have a baby.
