Apologists Concerned About Rick Warren's Alignment With 'Holy Father'
Charisma News ^ | 12/3/14 | Mark Andrews

"Christian unity" is one of those terms that stir up a whole spectrum of—sometimes emotional—opinions.

On the one hand, we know that Jesus prayed to the Father concerning future believers "that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you" (John 17:21a, NIV).

On the other hand, charismatics know it is almost pointless to discuss the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12, 14) with Baptists or most anyone else from a mainline denomination. And Protestants of just about any stripe get riled up when they hear Catholics talking about papal infallibility or their adoration of the Virgin Mary.

It's on this latter point that Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, and successful author, has waded into a hornet's nest of controversy by telling a Catholic News Service interviewer that Protestants and Catholics "have far more in common than what divides us" and that Catholics do not "worship Mary like she's another god."

Regarding Warren's view that Catholics do not worship Mary, Matt Slick, writing on the website of the Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry, goes into great detail with material from Roman Catholic sources that say Mary is "the all holy one," is to be prayed to, worshipped, that she "brings us the gifts of eternal life" and she "made atonement for the sins of man."

If that's not putting her in the place of Christ as a god-like figure to be worshipped, then what is it?

"We believe in Trinity, the Bible, the resurrection, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ. These are the big issues," Warren says. "But the most important thing is if you love Jesus, we're on the same team."

To Warren's point about being on the same team, Slick.....

It sure does. How can a sane person even think those thoughts?

“Is there only one God or three?”

One. And Jesus is ONE in Himself even though He has two natures (divine and human). God is three Divine Persons, but but only one Godhead.

Dude, you need to relax some.

Mary gave birth to God with us, Immanuel, named Jesus.

She did not give birth to God.

If you are going to insist that Mary gave birth to God, and that God is the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, then by saying that Mary is the mother of God, it is saying that Mary is the mother of the Father and the Holy Spirit as well.

If the three make one God, and Mary is the mother of God, then she is the mother of the Trinity.

Not only have you sided with a fellow FRoman catholic, you’ve also placed yourself on his same level of credibility any further.

LOL! You think I'm worried about my credibility with the protestant contingent? Give me a break! I don't seek the approval of those who promulgate falsehoods to serve their own self-deifying purposes.

These groups are wrong on their position as it contradicts the Word. No Christian denies that.

Much as catholics are wrong on the immaculate conception as it too contradicts the Word as all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Peter was already pulling back from eating with Gentiles due to pressure from the Jews until Paul admonished him.

Meanwhile Pope Urban II promised "Christian" jihad for those who would go fight the muslims. He actually promised that if they died fighting they would go to Heaven!

All of this illustrates what happens when you fall away from the Word. Reading it will keep you on track and in a right relationship with God.

As the Psalmist wrote..."Thy word I have treasured in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.

“Oops, one person, Jesus, God?”

No oops. Jesus is God. Mary gave birth to Jesus, God.

“There are three persons which comprise the One God.”

Yes.

“The third you left out.”

Nope. I omitted nothing that had to be said. I only mentioned one Person - Jesus, God. The comma does not mean more than one person. The comma simply allows the statement that Jesus is God without always having to say “is”. This is obvious to those who know basic punctuation.

“The Holy Spirit.”

Again, nothing that had to be said was omitted. I did not mention the Father or the Holy Spirit since I was talking about only the Second Person, Jesus.

“So to be completely accurate, Mary gave birth to the Holy Spirit also.”

No. The Holy Spirit never took on humanity to be born into the world as a singular person both divine and human. Jesus did. Mary gave birth to one Person, not two. That one Person had two natures - divinity and humanity.

“How interesting to give birth to the Person that caused you to be with child.”

That’s not what happened. It would not surprise me that a Protestant would be so confused as to think so, however.

What the Church doesn’t do is exclude the first interpretation.

Why can't your church decide which is RIGHT?

I posted quotes from YOUR leaders that AGREE with the Protestant view.

I will wait for you (or any othetr Catholic reading this) to post QUOTES from Catholic Leaders that show the OTHER 'interpretation(s)'.

What I see here is an attempt at getting the thread locked or pulled.

Whenever the RC’s are losing badly, they go into hyper drive, and ramp the thread up hoping to get it pulled or locked for *childish behavior* or *flame baiting*.

It’s happened enough before. I see the same symptoms.

We’ve had out laugh for the day over the jaw dropping absurdity of it all, so I think that in order to keep the thread on the rails, we let the posts speak for themselves.

And they do........

Not sure how it is possible, but this Mary thing is more idolatrous than I could have imagined!

It behooves us to KEEP on pointing this out!

So, was the Holy Spirit wrong when He identified Mary as *mother of Jesus*?

“Is Christ divided?”

Nope. He is ONE Person - and Mary gave birth to Him. To say anything else is to divide Christ, to say He was not fully human or fully divine - and if He was not that, then we were not redeemed as promised. Christianity would be a fraud. Thus, the truth must be defended: Mary is the mother of God for Christ is God. The truth is always worth defending. If Protestant anti-Catholics are offended by the truth, that’s their problem.

As an exercise in consistency, and that you practice what you preach, I expect you to invite into your home anyone who knocks at your door and asks you to study the scriptures. You are not permitted to ask their religious affiliation.

Is this tactic something you've been taught by your chosen religion; or something us Sola Scripture kinda folks who do??

If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

Any more jokes?

Since it IS getting a bit stuffy in here; I'll give you another one...

A rabbi, a priest and a minister walk into a bar.

The bartender looks up and says, "What is this, a joke?"

There is only error in rejecting it because when you reject it you are denying that Christ is God.

Someone needs to go back to logic class!
