Saddleback Church founder speaks at Vatican-hosted Humanum Colloquium.
Pastor Rick Warren, Founder and Senior Pastor of Saddleback Churchan evangelical megachurch located in Lake Forest, Californiawas among the featured presenters at last week's Vatican-hosted Colloquium on the Complementarity of Man and Woman. Also known as the Humanum Colloquium, the conference gathered leaders and scholars from various Christian and non-Christian religions across the globe November 17-19 to examine and propose anew the beauty of the relationship between man and woman in marriage.
Warren, one of the most prominent evangelical leaders in the world, is perhaps most widely known as the author of the bestselling books The Purpose Driven Church and The Purpose Driven Life.
Aleteia's Rome correspondent sat down with Pastor Warren at the conclusion of the Humanum Colloquium to discuss his experience at the interreligious event; the six points of what he calls a "Purpose Driven Marriage"; and his first trip across the Tiber.
Pastor Warren, what has been your impression of this weeks colloquium on the complementarity of man and woman in marriage?
I think it was great because you heard people not only from the streams of Christianity but also non-Christian religions showing solidarity with us about what we call the biblical definition of marriage: one man and one woman for life.
Thats a good thing. Right now in the world, the minority view is getting the majority of press, and you just dont hear the fact that the vast majority of people believe that marriage is what its always been since the Creation: one man and one woman for life.
What have been some of the highlights of the Humanum Colloquium?
Rabbi [Jonathan] Sacks is a friend of mine, and his message was outstanding. [Jacqueline] Rivers message was just outstanding. Sr. Prudence was just fantastic. She is so brilliant.

This is the kind of word gaming RCC posters on FR employ to try to put down those who are trying to help them see the errors, the deceptions, in which RCC members have been trapped for hundreds of years, including the deception of Purgatory. I'm constantly told that Catholicism places too much store by "tradition".
Here I see Warren copping some flak because he's apparently diverged from Protestant "tradition".
What gives?

Strawman? IDK.

And even if that wasn’t a problem....no one wants to smell wet goat anyway.

Strawman? IDK."Historic Protestantism" was the exact phrase used upthread in post #10.
I'm attempting to discover when this reliance on tradition became an accepted part of Protestant theology. What's "straw" about that?
Anything to offer?
All I know is that Warren doesn't measure up to its standards, apparently.
As you may be aware, I don't have a problem with authentic Christian tradition but I find it strange that Protestants would lapse into this heretical Catholic practice.

Was not aware before now.
Not a Protestant, except by the uniquely RCC definition that suggests that any Christian who is not a member of the RCC is a Protestant. (Another one of many blatant and conspicuous RCC teaching errors.)
Primarily, some Lutherans and some other denominations that have labeled themselves as such, are Protestant groups of churches. Not all Christian assemblies, congregations and fellowships grew out of the Lutheran and other Protestant church groups, and thus out of the RCC before that.
The RCC can change many things, but not the truth.

Why drag Joe Smith's church into this...?

Ridiculous! Protestants believe in tradition. What they don’t believe in is elevating tradition over Scripture, which is what Rome does.

You simply have different tradition(s).

(Another one of many blatant and conspicuous RCC teaching errors.) Most non-Catholic faith communities have arisen through the nailing of theses to the door of one church and the founding of another.
A mini-reformation, if you will.
That's Protestantism in its essence, irrespective of whether the church door was Catholic or not.

Not only are those who hold this opinion in error and deceived, but also in distorting the idea of true religion they reject it, and little by little. turn aside to naturalism and atheism, as it is called; from which it clearly follows that one who supports those who hold these theories and attempt to realize them, is altogether abandoning the divinely revealed religion. Thus we have one of the many interpretations of Rome by a RC, while they censure Prots for doing to their supreme authority, and tell us we need a supreme head to settle matters,

That's self-flattering RCC hokum and lore.
Historically, many Christians over the centuries have fled for their lives from edicts of the RCC. Some of us suspect this could come about again.
To: CynicalBear
While there are many sacraments of the Romanist which are seeming harmless, the difference in the doctrine of Justification from the Romanist vs the Prostestant is so far apart that Rome offers ‘another gospel”. This is very dangerous.

It would be false whether or not I recognized it to be so.Still; the jury would like to see the evidence upon which you base your claim.
