PRIEST WHO CONVERTED FROM EPISCOPAL CHURCH RELATES NUMEROUS EXPERIENCES WITH SOULS FROM PURGATORY

For Father Lorig, going strong at 77 and full of the Spirit, it's a matter of seeing some of it with his own eyes.

On about a dozen occasions, says the priest, he has personally encountered spirits of the dead, including at bedside during the night, and has been led to pray their souls toward Jesus.

Father Lorig, who was ordained a Catholic priest in 1984, and who is married with four children (and fifteen grandchildren), had some special experiences while at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Nogales (near the Mexican border).

"It was built over an Indian graveyard -- paleo-Indians who were peaceful," says Father Lorig, pastor of Saint Maria Goretti parish (he is not associated with previous claims at this church of the supernatural).

"While we were digging a sacrarium -- a dry well [for proper disposal of Communion wine] -- the workmen came upon hand-made pots. We called the University of Arizona, which had paleontologists, and they came down.

2 threads on PTDS at the same time. I really suspect some believe they obtain an indulgence every time they post promotions of Rome.

In any case, i a surprised no one has tried to defend purgatory with 1 Cor. 3 or 2 Mac. 12 yet.

I haven’t been on FR long, but it seems to me that 99% of the Protestant posters are “Bible Only” Protestants. Is that accurate? I find that I rarely see other types of Protestants posting in these threads at all. If they are, it isn’t obvious.

I've been here since just after 9/11 and the biggest clash seems to come between Catholics and Bible Believing Christians. The thing that I notice though is that outside of these "Catholic/Bible Believing Christian" threads, we mostly get along and are in agreement with things politically.

You wrote:

“You’re getting warmer, he established the church with himself as the cornerstone, and the one and only head, and we Christians are his saints.”

He established His Church on the Rock - Peter - just as the Bible says. I see you deny the word of God. No surprise there.

“Many upon many will be deceived, but hold fast to his word, and truth will set us free.”

You are the deceived. And you do not hold fast to the word.

“Ask and he promises we will receive, seek and he promises we will find. God bless you on this day, and may he turn his face upon you.”

Ask Him to help you with your ignorance. I wish you knew Him. I see no evidence that you do.

Souls aren’t hanging around, and it’s too late to pray for them besides. Souls go to heaven or hell depending on if you’re in the book of life.

Wow, the only way to heaven is through Christ. To say souls are trapped somewhere or anything is against biblical teaching. Was Christ’s sacrifice on the cross not good enough?

Wow, so Christ dying for our sins was imperfect? Wow, away from me evil doers.

Purgatory: As “real” as Oz. No Biblical substantiation for it.

I know... I know... I have R.C. friends (one trained in Seminary) and they admit that they think “some stuff” in the Bible is true. But they believe made-up stuff carries more weight. If there’s a question whether an answer would come from the Bible or guys in collars, the guys always win.

“book of life” — predestination of souls?

Well, I do not consider Maccabees to be divinely inspired, I won't try to discuss it.

11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Isa 28:16; Matt 16:16-18; 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. Isa 8:20; Isa 48:10; Jer 23:29; 1Pet 1:7; 1Pet 4:12; 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. Mt. 25:14-24; 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Obviously this passage is figurative and metaphorical. Even if not, it is the man's works that burn.

Given a disposition to believe in Purgatory, I suppose this could be used as supporting evidence, but standing alone, it's weaker than the Zimmerman case.

Huh?? Of COURSE Christ’s passion and death bought us salvation! His sacrifice was perfect!! Are you not really reading our explanation, or are willfully misinterpreting because we are Catholic and, of course ALL Catholics are wrong? We are judged and will go to either heaven or hell. Purgatory is a state of preparation to enter heaven, in the bible it says that only through fire shall you enter heaven. Nothing unclean enters heaven. We are all stained with sin. Christ’s sacrifice was perfect, but we are not.

1 Cor. 3:15 – “if any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.”

Every perswon must do penance for their sins. Sorry you don’t believe that.

It’s taking responsibility as Christ asked us to.

That’s not biblical, sorry I can’t help. The way to heaven is through the narrow gate, not the world’s largest deception of God.

Are you saying you aren’t responsible for your own sins? Now that’s not biblical, for Christ said “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Now that’s responsibility!

My sins are accounted for, and I do love you and all catholics. It’s why I even talk about things. If I didn’t care, I’d say to heck with it and leave people to their fate, but that’s not what I’m called to do. I understand most catholics won’t change their point of view. But if just one person opens their eyes and sees the truth, the angels will party and heaven will rejoice. I can only really keep praying and try to find better ways to show love. Perhaps this isn’t it, I need to be continually improving.

That’s probably true. Similarly, there are probably certain types of Catholics who wouldn’t bother either.
