After criticizing The Franciscan University of Steubenville for its stance on homosexuality, a gay alumni group with no official connection to the faithful Catholic university is being urged to cease publicly affiliating themselves with the college.
Last week, a group calling itself Franciscan University Gay Alumni and Allies issued a news release that appeared on The Daily Kos among other places questioning why the course description of a class offered by the university seems to label homosexuality as deviant behavior. The course description is called Deviant Behavior and, according to the universitys website:
DEVIANT BEHAVIOR focuses on the sociological theories of deviant behavior such as strain theory, differential association theory, labeling theory, and phenomenological theory. The behaviors that are primarily examined are murder, rape, robbery, prostitution, homosexuality, mental illness, and drug use. The course focuses on structural conditions in society that potentially play a role in influencing deviant behavior.
Objecting to that course description, the group wrote that Franciscan University continues to class gay people with murderers and rapists. Outdated prejudices appear to be given more weight than scientific truth at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
They called the course pseudo-science and said that it is an example of religious ideology being allowed to trump the scientifically demonstrated truth of the matter. They point out that the latest version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders no longer includes homosexuality as a disorder.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that while gay people should be treated with respect and dignity, homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered and are contrary to the natural law.

The answer to that question writes itself.
If homosexual practices are not deviant from those clearly intended by nature, then I just don’t know what is.
A few of my kid’s high school friends went to Franciscan...
Everyone of them is a good, hard working, polite, respectful, delightful human being...
The Diocese of Steubenville (which we belong to) will have its new bishop installed next Monday at Franciscan University. I hope these reprobates stay far away. Pray for Bishop-Elect Monforton and the faithful of our diocese.
homosexuals have parades and flags and shirts all saying they are proud of their sexual ways but once somsone disagrees with their unnatural and quite honestly sick ways and deny their special rights then they break into baby temper tanturms
Deviant is as Deviant does.
I’m really hoping the Franciscan University Gay Alumni do not all wear Roman collars.
Maybe the school should offer a class on simple “plumbing”, that should prove their point.
P4L
just give biology classes and explain what is bad for the body, show where the colon and prostate is and that will give thme a perfect example of how screwed up and sick homosexuality is.
How coincidental. Our city logo has Christ the King Chappell from the university in it. The day that Franciscan publicly stated they would not be following obamacare laws, the Freedom From Religion Foundation threatened to sue our city for having a religios symbol in our logo. Now a gay group is protesting. Related? I certainly think these deviants are very well organized.
When I arrived at work this morning there was a deer family waiting for me by the front door. Mamma, Daddy and two babies.
And if the deer can figure it out, why can’t the Democrats?
LOL how true.
What makes us different from wild animals is that we can control ourselves and we can understand much more but alas as you say the animals understand it makes a male and a female and what their body parts are for.
What doe sthta say about the fringe left and the homosexuals then?
God's word does say if you break one law, you are just as guilty as if you had broken them all. So yes, homosexuals can be compared to murderers and rapists - all are sinners in need of salvation.
