Two interesting maps of Germany. On the first, the black areas are those with the highest concentration of Catholics according to the 1934 census:
On the second map, the black areas show the highest concentration of Nazi votes in the 1932 election (white the lowest)
Well fancy that!
The post Catholic Church Conservation:Catholics fiercest anti-nazis in pre-war Germany has larger versions of the maps if you want to see more detail.
As shown by the election figures for 1932.
First the percentage of Catholics.
And then the Nazi vote.
So much for the modern myth. Click on the pictures to show the detail.

I stumbled upon this recently and thought it was very interesting.
Practicing Catholics recognize a higher authority then Hitler ... errr ... Obama
Remember, the top Nazi was Adolph Hitler. he was Catholic.
You can flip this from showing "Anti-Nazi" sentiment on the part of Catholics to "Pro-Catholic" sentiment on the part of Protestants.
See what happens? You enter the threatre of the absurd.
What you have going on here are a couple of age-old divisions in Germany that EXISTED BEFORE these people were Christian.
There are the Franks in the West, and their more barbaric Germanic cousins in the East, and the forcible conversion of the folks in the East to Christianity. There are some Slavs working their way up from the bottom of the barrel over in the East as well.
You also have a history of Rome civilizing the Rhine Valley, and losing wars further East.
There is also the result of the division of the Holy Roman Empire into three states, and then it really rolls downhill by the time you get to the Thirty Years War.
In the end one bunch of Germans voted for the Nazis and another bunch of Germans voted for a different bunch of politicians. Plus, Hitler's guys counted the votes in the Eastern part of the country.
Did you know these people even use different dialects and figures of speech?
I am getting so tired of this BS. Hitler was no Catholic. He was everything that is anathema to Catholic teaching. He was NOT a Catholic. I do not care what he SAID he was, he was NOT a Catholic.
The weekly church attending vote by all Christians Protestant and Catholic, for McCain was 55%.
The overall Protestant vote went McCain by 54%, the Hispanic Protestant vote by itself went McCain by 48%, and the weekly churchgoing Protestant vote went McCain by 66%.
He sure wasn't a Protestant!
I suggest you go back to the beginning of this thread and read it through and see what was being claimed.
Then you come back here and tell me what you think.
At the moment you're just tossing an IGNANT epithet for no reason at all. If you're going to do that find a reason in the context of the thread.
The Auther of this book was recently on Glenn Beck’s show. Deitrich Bonhoeffer openly opposed Hitler from the pulpit knowing how it would end.

False.
“There are the Franks in the West,”
- yeah, in France!!!
“and their more barbaric Germanic cousins in the East,”
Like who exactly?
“and the forcible conversion of the folks in the East to Christianity.”
Saxons? Wends? Who?
“There are some Slavs working their way up from the bottom of the barrel over in the East as well.”
In 1932? And if you mean before the year 1000 how could that matter in 1932?
Your view of history is bizarre to say the least.
“You also have a history of Rome civilizing the Rhine Valley, and losing wars further East.”
What on earth does that have to do with 1932?
“There is also the result of the division of the Holy Roman Empire into three states, and then it really rolls downhill by the time you get to the Thirty Years War.”
What? Are you kidding? Please just throw in the kitchen sink to add to your mix of completely unrelated things!
“In the end one bunch of Germans voted for the Nazis and another bunch of Germans voted for a different bunch of politicians.”
Uh-huh. And?
“Plus, Hitler’s guys counted the votes in the Eastern part of the country.”
You mean the Nazis already held office in the mostly Protestant part of the country? What an interesting admission on your part.
“Did you know these people even use different dialects and figures of speech?”
Do you know most of them still do? And what’s that got to do with 1932?
Please come back when you make sense.
We do? Not me! Nominal or otherwise he was an abomination! Do not try to associate him with the Catholic faith. Please.
Yes, he did. And he was not alone. Catholic bishops and priests did the same thing.
Bishop Clemens August von Galen, for instance, became known as the “Lion of Munster” for his sermons against the Nazis.
We saw precursors to this in The Triumph of the Will, in which there is brilliantly conceived imagery of a profane wedding to parallel the wedding of Christ to his church.
What does it matter.
When discussing populations of millions, to point out an individual bad guy’s religious roots is pretty meaningless, Hitler was going to be born into a Catholic, or a Protestant family anyway, which one, is more a matter of trivia.
That's the topic.
With that I will agree.
Nothing forcible about it, for the record. Goths et al were Christian before they even approached Rome, having already been converted by emissaries of early popes. The deal then was simple--convert the leader, king, or whoever was in charge, and everyone else followed.
Both of you ~ this is about 1932 ~ not the later period.
Yes, I know that. I was responding to your attempt to claim that Hitler was associated with the Catholic faith. He was not.
