What is the definition of 'anti-Mormon'? - Anti-Mormon Caucus (Just Kidding)

What is the definition of 'anti-Mormon'?

I have often heard the criticism that Latter-day Saints classify everyone who disagrees with our beliefs as "anti-Mormon." Of course, the people who say this are usually anti-Mormons. Am I proving their point? I don't think so.

I actually agree that this is a problem in our church. After all, our belief system, if firmly embraced, demands a lot of personal sacrifice, and we often become hyper-defensive when we sense a threat to our faith.

Unfortunately, this often leads to irrational name-calling and blindly neglecting to differentiate between non-Mormons and anti-Mormons.

Of course, that's not to say anti-Mormons don't exist, or that it's unimportant to identify them. We just need to properly define the term.

First of all, we shouldn't call people who simply don't believe in Mormonism "anti-Mormons." We should call them Catholics or Baptists or Muslims or atheists. People who ascribe themselves to faiths or philosophies that contradict Mormonism should not automatically be seen as antagonists. They should be credited with having their own beliefs.

Now, what about people who try to convert Latter-day Saints to their belief systems? Are they anti-Mormons?

No.

The believing Baptist who testifies of his church's doctrine to a Latter-day Saint is trying to do something he believes is constructive. Even if he attempts to point out supposed flaws in Mormon doctrine, if his genuine intent is to save a soul and he maintains a polite, rational tone, I don't think he deserves the anti-Mormon label. After all, should Mormon missionaries be considered anti-Catholics or anti-Protestants?

The line, I believe, that separates non-Mormons from anti-Mormons is motivation. Anti-Mormons are people who put down Mormon beliefs, practices and people simply for the sake of destroying their faith. Not many anti-Mormons would admit that is their primary goal, of course, but that doesn't mean it isn't so.

For the most part, anti-Mormons should be ignored. But before that can happen, they have to be identified

Looking back, I should have put a ‘joke’ disclaimer in and I did apologize if anyone took it seriously.

I'm not joking!
This is ALL true!

Joseph Smith was a famous Preacher in the Eastern USA. His teaching empire grew to include acquisition of valuable printing assets and intimate dealings with the Missouri courts.

 He devoted several years of his early life to exploratory service, finally taking leave to assume his dealings with various Spiritual Beings.

As an adjunct to his exploratory work, Mummies and papyrus are purchased from Michael Chandler.  On July 19, 1835 at age 29; Joseph began translating the papyrus. It will be known as the Book of Abraham, generating quite a lot of interest by leading archeological experts.

 In 1844, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the authorities in Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois. That same month, Smith passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the excitable group who had come to visit him pressed too many into the room he was in and his death resulted.

In fact, we believe women are naturally more righteous than men. This is why the Priesthood is given only to men since we need it in order to approach the spiritual level of women.

OFFICIAL DECLARATION #3

To Whom It May Concern:

On April 5, 2002, at the 173rd Annual General Conference of The Corporation of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the following was presented by President Thomas S. Monson, First Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church:

In early January of this year, the First Presidency announced that a revelation had been received by President Gordon B. Hinkley extending priesthood and temple blessings to all members of the Church, regardless of gender. President Hinkley has asked that I advise the conference that after he had received this revelation, which came to him after extended consultation with his marketing advisors , he presented it to his counselors, who accepted it under duress and approved it. It was then presented to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who, after much back biting and evil speaking, unanimously approved it, and was subsequently presented to all other General Authorities, who likewise knew on which side their bread was buttered.

President Hinckley has asked that I now read this letter:

January 12, 2003

To all general and local priesthood officers of The Corporation of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the world:

Dear Brethren:

As we have witnessed the slowing expansion of the church of the Lord, we have been grateful that credulous people of both genders have responded to the message of the restored gospel, though in many parts of the world there are insufficient active, priesthood-holding men to run even a small branch. This, in turn, has inspired us with a desire to extend to every worthy member of the Church all of the privileges and blessings which the gospel affords.

Aware of the groundless personal biases of the prophets and presidents of the Church who have preceded us, yet witnessing the faithfulness of those sisters from whom the priesthood has been withheld, we have pleaded long and earnestly with the less enlightened brethren on behalf of these, our faithful sisters, spending many hours in the Upper Room of the Temple twisting arms and threatening imeritus status.

Also, the Lord has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that we have been sexist pigs and control freaks and that the long-overdue day has come when every faithful, worthy person in the Church may receive the holy priesthood, with power to exercise its divine authority, and enjoy with her loved ones every blessing that flows there-from, including the blessings of telling men what to do. Accordingly, all worthy members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for gender or sexual orientation. Priesthood leaders are instructed to follow the policy of carefully interviewing all candidates for ordination to either the Aaronic or the Melchizedek Priesthood to insure that they meet the established standards for worthiness. Priesthood leaders are also reminded that what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms is none of your business.

We declare with soberness that the Lord has now made known his will for the blessing of all his children throughout the earth who will hearken to the voice of his authorized servants, and prepare themselves to receive every blessing of the gospel.

Sincerely yours,

The first presidency of the LDS Church
GORDON B. HINCKLEY
THOMAS S. MONSON
JAMES E. FAUST

The First Presidency

Recognizing Gordon B. Hinckley as the prophet, seer, and chief executive officer of The Corporation of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is proposed that we as a constituent assembly accept this revelation as the word and will of the Lord. All in favor please signify by raising your right hand. Any opposed can shove it up their asses.

The vote to sustain the foregoing motion was unanimous in the affirmative.

Salt Lake City, Utah, April 5, 2003.

I came home, had time to bake 2 pies, while danceing around the kitchen singing praises to God all morning, then went and had Easter dinner with our families.

Praise to the Man!

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know 'Brother Joseph' again.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with
Gods
, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

"It's the Webbs, their six children and now their 16 grandchildren who all come together several days before Easter to create what has been called the "miracle of the chairs." Each year for the past 25, Loran, a member of the Mesa Arizona 25th Ward in the Maricopa Arizona North Stake, has overseen the massive delivery and pickup effort of some 10,000 folding chairs. First, he sends out letters inviting "about 40 stakes to each bring 300 chairs," he says, then follows up with an intense phone campaign to ensure all the chairs will be delivered as planned at the designated time and date.

"There's no greater service that we can do every year than to make it possible for the nearly 100,000 visitors to see the pageant," she says.

Anti-Mormon? To me it’s disagreeing with their theology.

You do that and they come back with “you’re anti-Mormon” ...

***

I have not problem with one who disagrees with my faith I also disagreee too with their faith or I would be amember of their faith.

Many who disagree have various degrees in how they feel about it.

What has happen on FR is more than disagreeing.

There are a handful who have made it their daily mission to if they could rid the LDS Faith.

They say it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints itself they are against but the members who are apart of what composed The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Like the saying I know art when I see it.

Well many will say I know hate/abuse when I witness and feel it!

From an LDS understanding is that other faiths doctrines have been alter (as some would lable it preverted) omited and deleted the Word of the Lord.

But I am not anti other faiths just disagree for I know the Holy Spirit has witness many faithful believers who love the Lord yet are not aware of the stumbling stones that are present.

If ‘other’ faiths have been altered as you say then why did Joseph Smith Jr. incorporate those so-called errors in his re-translation of the Bible? He also incorporated those same errors in the BOM .... so the BOM is not all that accurate either ....

The Bible is universal it does not belong to anyone group or faith but to many who used the scriptures to define their own creeds.

These scriptures came from the Lord to His living anointed servants; prophets/apostles during the various dispensations... even the Lord made know several times in his scriptures “do not add or subtract” and even to Paul Gal the Lord in a revelation came to Paul….

This is the reason for restoration in the Latter days.

Then you are anti-Christian,since you classify Christians who disagree with mormon doctrines as anti-mormons.

Then why does the LDS use the Bible to prove their point but refutes the Bible when it disagrees with the LDS view?

The LDS has redefined every Christian ideology. Who does the LDS say Jesus is? You redefine who He is. Your LDS version of Jesus is not the Christian view of Jesus.

LDS are not anti Christian
___________________________________________

Joey Smith hated Christians...

he hated anyone he couldnt control...

and then later he hated anyone he could...

When he was about 25 he made up a story about a so called “vision” in which he claimed that he heard voices and the mormon god had told him Chrsitianity was an abomination...

Whether this was because a Christian girl had spurned his sexual advances..

or whether her father had run him off with a shotgun, or for some other reason is unknown...

But Joey Smith was an occultist rather than a Chrsitian so hatred againbst other religions...

and bigotry and blasphemy against Cjhrsitianity would have been easy for the pagan Joey Smith...

Wer do know that Joey Smith hated Presbyterians, and claimed that he told his mother that he “found out Presbyterianism is untrue”

His mother never acknowledged that he had said that and Joey Smith never expounded on what he meant by that...

Since Joey Smith had a bad reputation and had been arrested several for being a public nuisance and being lazy and for “glass looking” scams for money with the same stone he later used to so called “book of mormon”, this was probably another of his “revenges” for imagined slights to the egotistical Joey Smith...
