Wednesday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Psalm: Wednesday 44 Reading I Responsorial Psalm Gospel
Reading I
Gal 5:18-25
Brothers and sisters:
If you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are obvious:
immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry,
sorcery, hatreds, rivalry, jealousy,
outbursts of fury, acts of selfishness,
dissensions, factions, occasions of envy,
drinking bouts, orgies, and the like.
I warn you, as I warned you before,
that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
In contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh
with its passions and desires.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also follow the Spirit.
Responsorial Psalm
Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6
R (see Jn 8:12) Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Blessed the man who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.
R Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
He is like a tree
planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.
R Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Not so the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.
R Those who follow you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Gospel
Lk 11:42-46
The Lord said:
"Woe to you Pharisees!
You pay tithes of mint and of rue and of every garden herb,
but you pay no attention to judgment and to love for God.
These you should have done, without overlooking the others.
Woe to you Pharisees!
You love the seat of honor in synagogues
and greetings in marketplaces.
Woe to you!
You are like unseen graves over which people unknowingly walk."
Then one of the scholars of the law said to him in reply,
"Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too."
And he said, "Woe also to you scholars of the law!
You impose on people burdens hard to carry,
but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them."
Today is the 87th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun at Fatima.
Were there any pictures taken at that time?

FEAST OF THE DAY
King Edward the Confessor was son of King Ethelred II. His father
was unseated by a Danish invasion and Edward and his brother
were sent to Denmark to be quietly killed. The officer in charge of
carrying out the order felt mercy and took the two boys to Sweden,
from where they were sent to the King of Hungary to be raised and
educated. After their education was completed, Edward and his
brother moved to Normandy to wait for their chance to return home
to England.
Edward began to gain a reputation as being just and worthy of the
kingship and the people of England gave him their support. After a
long wait, Edward was restored to the throne of his father, crowned
on Easter day 1042 and at the age of 40 began a reign governed
with justice and peace. During his reign, Edward repulsed invasion,
helped restore the King of Scotland to his throne, and was generous
in the distribution of the royal treasury. He remitted many unjust
taxes and was well known for his piety and love of God. Edward died
around the year 1066.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
God is so good and merciful, that to obtain Heaven it is sufficient to
ask it of Him from our hearts. - St. Benedict Joseph Labre

TODAY'S TIDBIT
The fruits of the Mass are spiritual and temporal blessings that result
form the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The general
fruits are shared by all the faithful, living and departed, while the
special fruits are applied to the priest who celebrates the Mass, to
those for whose intention the Mass is offered and to all who
participate in its celebration.
INTENTION FOR THE DAY
Please pray that all people may develop a greater love for the Mass.
Witnesses reported -
"I looked at the sun and saw it spinning like a disc, rolling on itself. I saw people changing colour. They were stained with the colours of the rainbow. The sun seemed to fall down from the sky . . . The people said that the world was going to end . . . They were afraid and screaming." Antonio de Oliveiro, Farmer.
"Suddenly the rain stopped and a great splendour appeared and the children cried: 'Look at the sun!' I saw the sun coming down, feeling that it was falling to the ground. At that moment, I collapsed." Maria Candida da Silva.
"I looked and saw that the people were in various colours - yellow, white, blue. At the same time, I beheld the sun spinning at great speed and very near me. I at once thought: I am going to die." Rev. Joao Menitra.
"Before the astonished eyes of the crowd, whose aspect was biblical as they stood bareheaded, pale with fright, eagerly searching the sky, the sun trembled, made sudden incredible movements outside all cosmic laws - the sun 'danced' according to the typical expression of the people. Standing at the step of the Torres Novas bus was an old man, whose appearance in face and figure reminded one of Paul Deroulede. With his face turned towards the sun he recited the Creed in a loud voice . . . Afterwards, I saw him going up to those around him who still had their hats on, and vehemently imploring them to uncover their heads before such an extraordinary demonstration of the existence of God. Identical scenes were repeated elsewhere, and in one place, a woman cried out in a gasp of surprise: 'How dreadful that there are some men who do not even bare their heads before such a stupendous miracle!' People then began to ask each other what they had seen. The great majority admitted to having seen the trembling and the dancing of the sun. Others affirmed that they saw the face of the Blessed Virgin, while others swore that the sun whirled on itself to the earth as if to burn it with its rays. Some said they saw it change colours successively."
"It was almost three o'clock in the afternoon. The sky was swept clear of clouds and the sun followed its course in its usual splendour, so that no one ventured to gaze at it directly. What about the little shepherds? Lucia, who had spoken to Our Lady, was announcing with expressive gestures, as she was carried along shoulder-high by a man and passed from group to group, that the war would end and that the soldiers would return . . . But news like that, however, did nothing to increase the jubilation of those who heard it. The heavenly sign was sufficient for them: it was everything.
"Intense curiosity prevailed to see the two little girls in their wreaths of roses, and to kiss the hands of these 'little saints', one of whom, Jacinta, seemed nearer to fainting than dancing. They had so longed to see the sign from Heaven: they had seen and were satisfied and radiated burning faith . . . The crowd dispersed rapidly, without any difficulty, without any sign of disorder, without any need for policemen to regulate them. Those who were the first to arrive were also the first to depart, running out on the roadway, travelling on foot with their footwear in a bundle on their heads or strung from their staffs. They went, with hearts overflowing with joy, to bring the good news to their hamlets that had not been wholly depopulated for the time being.
"And what of the priests? Some turned up at the place, mingling more among the curious spectators rather than among the pilgrims avid for heavenly signs and favours. Perhaps neither one nor the other succeeded in concealing their happiness, which so often transpired in triumphant guise . . . It only remains for those competent to do justice to the bewildering dance of the sun which, on this day in Fatima, caused Hosannas to resound from the hearts of all the faithful present, and naturally made a great impression, as people worthy of belief assured me, on the freethinkers and others without any religious conviction who had come to this now famous spot located on the poor pastureland high up on the serra. Avelino de Almeida."
"The sun started to roll from one place to another and changed to blue, yellow - all colours. Then we see the sun coming towards the children. Everyone was crying out. Some started to confess their sins because there was no priest around there . . . My mother grabbed me to her and started to cry, saying 'It is the end of the world!' And then we see the sun come right into the trees . . ." Dominic Reis, in an American TV interview, 1960.
This sounds much like a UFO / ET experience - holographic projections for many to see. It included spiritual messages to be read at the appropriate times. Two of the messages have come to pass. The third is known by certain members of the clergy.
It seems like a legitimate witness report. However, the host of the site is a "psychic," so I wouldn't use it as a source.
After reading some particularly hatefilled articles this morning, I would like to offer up this prayer:
O Lord,
infinite Ocean of Mercy,
our source,
our hope,
our truth,
help us this day to be your hands here
on this world
where the unmerciful nature
of the dark confronts us daily.
Help us this day to be lanterns of your light
and show those around us
that the dark
is not the truth
no matter how common
or prevalent.
Help us this day
to be beacons of your hope,
and by our love for your,
by our actions,
by our words
by the choices we make
may we show others the way
home to you.
Susan E. Stone, 2004
That is beautiful. It will be an absolute gem for this thread!
Thanks for the warning. I'll look for a more legitimate account.
Can not copy or view source, so you must go to the site.
That one is better, but it also has some unapproved visions too on it.

# | Douay-Rheims | Vulgate |
37 | And as he was speaking, a certain Pharisee prayed him that he would dine with him. And he going in, sat down to eat. | et cum loqueretur rogavit illum quidam Pharisaeus ut pranderet apud se et ingressus recubuit |
38 | And the Pharisee began to say, thinking within himself, why he was not washed before dinner. | Pharisaeus autem coepit intra se reputans dicere quare non baptizatus esset ante prandium |
39 | And the Lord said to him: Now you, Pharisees, make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter: but your inside is full of rapine and iniquity. | et ait Dominus ad illum nunc vos Pharisaei quod de foris est calicis et catini mundatis quod autem intus est vestrum plenum est rapina et iniquitate |
40 | Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make also that which is within? | stulti nonne qui fecit quod de foris est etiam id quod de intus est fecit |
41 | But yet that which remaineth, give alms: and behold, all things are clean unto you. | verumtamen quod superest date elemosynam et ecce omnia munda sunt vobis |
NAME and ORIGIN
(p. 9 of the Handbook)
The Legion of Mary is an Association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces (who is fair as the moon, bright as the sun and -- to satan and his legionaries -- terrible as an army set in battle array), have formed themselves into a Legion for service in the warfare which is perpetually waged by teh Church against the world and its evil powers.Quote:The lgeionaries hope to render themselves worhty of their great heavenly Queen by their loyality, their virtues, and their courage. The Legion of Mary is therefore organized on the model of an army, principally on that of the army of ancient Rome, the terminology of which is adopted also. But the army and the arms of legionaries of Mary are not of this world.
The whole life of men, both individual and social, shows itself to be a struggle, and a dramatic one, between good and evil, between light and darkness.
St. Annes from Scranton PA had all internet Daily Mass posters in their intentions today on TV Catholic Mass.
Bump for Catholic Mass for the homebound.
I usaully don't donate 'cept as a FR Monthly donor but I felt it was important to support the ability to keep Mass on tv via St. Anne.
King Vanity has a need being homebound for daily mass via the tv.
I don't feel like reading out loud all the time but Salvation your morning Daily thread is my alarm clock to set reminder for KV to watch 12:30 Mass which I often share and pray along with them.
