Can't sizeable quakes be detected pretty much anywhere on the planet?

You could build your own seismometer that could have very easily picked up the Japanese quake (and even a much smaller Japanese quake) anywhere in the US.

My Mom in NY just called to see if we were OK . We live in Kumamoto on the island of Kyushu ...at the opposite end of the country ! No matter how long I stay here she just can't seem to grasp where we live , or the time difference !

"It is normal FR policy to diss women, people that don't fire first, and anyone that might not vote your way in your silly polls."

Yeah, we've already heard we're a hate group. You haven't been here that long, you jump in and flame someone for no good reason, you then accuse of of intolorance for being tolorant of someone else's mistake and CONTINUE to attack for no reason. In addition, you obviously don't feel you belong here by the language you suddenly use to seperate you from FR.

You're free to go stomp on someone else's freedom of speech in some other forum if you don't like this one.

There was a tidal wave in The Abyss? I don't think so. There was a nuclear war- head, a psycho soldier, aliens and a hurricane, but I don't recall a tidal wave.

The tidal wave subplot was in the pre-release cut of the film, and was part of the climax, but was cut for length reasons -- as released to the theaters, The Abyss was still two hours and 20 minutes long, even *after* the cuts.

The cut scenes, totalling 28 more minutes, were restored for a "Director's Cut" release, and they were worth restoring -- they fleshed out the characters and plot even more (especially the deep-sea creatures), and it's a shame it had to go missing for the original release.

also: Is this your doing?

See my post on that thread. ;-)

Please forgive me for upsetting you, but I am not the only poster that has mentioned the quick 'nonsense' post. I can't change the fact that you signed up before I did, but that still doesn't give you the right to belittle my posts. There are posters here who are very offended by the early 'nonsense' that gets posted on each thread.

As you said, I can go elsewhere...but I would like to know how telling people to leave will ever further your cause?

HMMMM,

I think my USGS criteria is set at 5.0 and above.

Not surprised that there was a quake there after the Japanese one. That area of Taiwan has quakes virtually constantly. There's a section of a railroad along the Eastern coast that moves constantly. They have to redo the tracks routinely.

Appreciate the info.

I agree with the, IF Yellowstone Caldera blew, The US would never be the same. World Politics would change in an instant. I wouldn't even try to predict what would happen, as far as other countries. I think most of the US would probably go into instant shutdown.

There wouldn't be a US after it blew. Yellowstone would knock out the entire western half of the US. Related geological effects might include a repeat of the 8.+ magnitude 1812 Earthquakes centered around Memphis Tn which could finish the rest of the MidWest.

China and Japan would become the foremost economic powers on the planet with Russia's nuclear arsenal placing it into the status of Great Powers. Hmmm ... maybe similar to the world status of pre WW1 with Great Powers instead of Super (US / USSR) or hyper powers (US post cold war).

I wonder if this could explain why there is no mention of the Eagle in the Bible (Revelations)?

The young cubs of the lion (England) are mentioned in Ezekiel. I think that is probably the US, Australia, and England's other settlements. However, by that point, all she does is wage a diplomatic protest "what? You've come to take a spoil?" We're either so tied up elsewhere or we just don't matter any more at that point.
