A light "6" on the Japanese scale, though.
Out in the ocean, up near Hidaka.

Uh-oh. Tsunami warnings? A Japanese quake of that magnitude could mean tsunami warnings for the entire west coast of the US, depending on the quake's location and depth.
I'm going searching.

The official magnitude for this earthquake is indicated at the top of this page. This was the best available estimate of the earthquake's size, at the time that this page was created. Other magnitudes associated with web pages linked from here are those determined at various times following the earthquake with different types of seismic data. Although, given the data used, they are legitimate estimates of magnitude, they are not considered the official magnitude.

This occured exactly 29 minutes ago. They are sounding the tsunami warning up in Hokkaido. (Think geographically if Tokyo were Atlanta, Georgia, then Hokkaido would be Rhode Island).
Pretty far from Tokyo.

5 mins since you posted this, and nothing on Reuters, my bloomberg terminal, FOX or CNN. I'm thinking this is a hoax.

Pull that one, please.
For Pete's sake, Western Honshu is on the other side of the archipelago from Hokkaido.
That is from two days ago. It is now Friday a.m. in Japan.
