Get series about HEALTHY, and LOW CARB FOOD
This, and future threads, will attempt to answer some of your questions and requests regarding HEALTHY food in general, and LOW CARB, LOW CALORIE diets and recipes in particular. With my background as a Master Chef, and Natural Foods Sexonutritionist, aka SexyChef (/dreamer) Bwhahaahahahahah, it affords me a wonderful vantage point to assist in creating this forum, where everyone can contribute, exchange ideas and voice their valuable opinions. Moderating in no way qualifies me as an authority on this, or any other subject.*..heheheh ..that has never inhibited me before.. blush
* (a cheap unofficial GENERAL ESCAPE CLAUSE.. HA!)
There are many other FReepers, (you know who you are.. LOL) on this amazing site that have a great deal more detailed knowledge and information on specific topics, that will no doubt emerge. Sooooooo, lets get started..
This TRAIN IS LEAVING THE STATION... chew, chew
(chew chew, not Choo, choo, get it? food).. Hahahahhahaha... {{{{{crickets}}}}} .....GULP!....this is gonna be a long thread.. :)

Last time I had Whale was about twenty years ago, in Japan.
Where would I buy it here?
Is'nt it pretty well restricted to the black market and maybe the menu at the Yakuza Clubs these days, something about a whaling ban comes to mind?
Or is it just one of those $150 Lb. meats now?

Please put me on your "ping" list. I've been on a low carb diet since June and have lost 23 lbs.
The crustless pizza and the quiche recipes both look good. Want to try them.

Well, unless you have connections at the Makah reservation, or in Norway, I doubt you'll be able to get any ;0)

Provolone Seafood Au GratinOh man..this is the only way to fix low carb seafood for a dinner party, or a special evening at home ..it works..LOL
- 2 Tbls. pure olive oil
- 1 lb fresh med. size shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 lb bay or sea scallops, rinsed and drained
- 3 Tbls. butter
- 2 Tbls. oat flour (easily found in most major supermarkets)
- 2 med. egg yolks
- 2 cups hot chicken broth
- 3 Tbls. chopped shallots
- 1 (4 oz.) can button mushrooms, drained , or 1/4 lb fresh, sliced thin
- 1/2 cup dry white wine
- 1 lb cooked crab meat (can be canned if top quality)
- 2 cups shredded Provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 Tbls. chopped fresh parsley
Preheat oven to 400°F. (Lightly butter 8 individual, small baking dishes)
1) In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Sauté shrimp and scallops until firm, about 5 minutes.
2) In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
3) Stir in flour until smooth. Gradually add chicken broth and egg yolks, and raise heat to medium high.
4) Stir until lightly thickened. Mix in shallots, mushrooms and wine.
Cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
5) Arrange shrimp, scallops and crab in the bottom of prepared dishes. Pour sauce over seafood and cover with cheese.
Bake in preheated oven until golden, about 12 to 15 minutes. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
Serves 8. Less than 4 carbs per serving.

Get me on your ping list, Carlos!
Long time low-carber, and always looking for a new idea.
The best part of low-carbing, for anyone who is considering it, is that it clears your head. And, as someone already mentioned, food doesn't really matter anymore.
Once in a while I have a nice treat, but for the most part, I skip all the white foods. (Except cauliflower!)

Keep me off your list, I eat a high fat high carb diet and enjoy at least a quart of ice cream and a gallon of whole milk every day.
I don't want to lose weight (weight the same 200# that I did when I graduated from high school) and haven't been sick in 57 years when I was 8 years old.

I need to stop drinking soda pop.I had to give up my beloved Pepsi's. Switched to diet Pepsi and found that a way to make taste like old fashioned soda fountain sodas. Pour Pepsi (or Coke) in a tall glass with plenty of ice and just a couple of drops of Hershey's chocolate. Stir and sip with a straw. Delicious!
The only bad thing is that most soft drinks contain Aspertame which gives me headaches, so I don't drink too much. A better choice is RC Diet Cola sweetened with Splenda (hard to find, though), or Diet-Rite Cola also sweetened with Splenda, not quite as good as the RC, but found in most supermarkets.

Tuna dip
1-2 6oz can(s) tuna-drained.
4-8oz cream cheese softened --I microwave for a few seconds-stir-add tuna-then micro a few more seconds.Sometimes I add cheese and use Hickory flavored tuna. Yum.
Can use warm in place of salad dressing, or chill and have celery or pork rinds with it.
I hate mayo so instead of Miracle Whip (have a recipe for faux Miracle Whip using Splenda but haven't tried it yet).I use the cream cheese--actually like it better.
I have made several desserts but never write them down...most used Heavy cream,Splenda, eggs and flavorings.Made a few batches of ice cream and frozen custard--yum.
I make my own jello using Kool-aid ,unflavored gelatin and Splenda.
I use a lot of Splenda---good thing I can get 200 packets for $3.29. ;-`)
I have had both Atkins vanilla shake mix, and Carb Solutions vanilla and chocolate --they aren't that bad and if I use heavy cream and kool-aid instead of water they are even better.
Black cherry and chocolate is really good and orange and vanilla is too.
I haven't done induction yet...but since June I have cut way back on my carb intake.
I used to be a 2(or more) 2-liter a day Coke, Mountain Dew, Code Red, ect drinker and have cut caffeine out almost totally and now drink lots of water, tea and kool-aid.

Also any ideas for "fake sweets"? Fabulous and Flourless : 150 Wheatless and Dairy-Free Deserts by: Mary Wachtel Mauksch
These are not fake sweets. They are very good. The author uses recipes from her childhood that are based on ground nuts, rather than flour. I substituted Splenda for the sugar. The cake I made was great.

Wal-Mart has the low carb chocolate bars at half teh cost they are in the grocery store. (Pure De-Lite Brand) which I find to be a very OK substitute for the real deal.
