So it's all the Canadian's fault, eh? If I were GWB's advisor's, I would be telling him to get in front of this thing quick. The media and the nine dwarfs are going to be hitting GWB hard for this one.
I can see it now, Peter Jennings blaming Bush for not caring about the situation while he raises money from rich fat cats in California.

I don't want to start fear mongering, but some time ago they said that terrorists could target the powergrid.
From BBC in Oct. 2001:
"Computer experts have painted a chilling picture of the potential threat from a combined terror and cyber-attack on the United States.
They told Congress that terrorists could target computer networks critical to power supplies, telecommunications and financial systems and wreak havoc on the country. "
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1593018.stm Then there were recent reports that Al Qaeda has been planning major attacks in multiple countries this week.
So far they say that "there is no evidence that this was terrorism related" and it's a "natural occurrence" (?!).
To: Petronski
Its on all local news in Chicago and they keep saying it is not terrorist related. MSNBC has taken over our local channel and Ashleigh sounds nervous. She said smoke was seen at ConEd in a station by the water. I'm not familiar at all w/ NY but they are 'claiming' the outages are having a ripple affect, all the way to Detroit come on?

Niagra-Mohawk grid overloadedAnd they've insisted this couldn't happen again as they've put in safeguards to prevent another "Great Blackout of 65".

OK, the word on the web is that this has to do with some burnout of the Niagra Power station. HOWEVER, if this is the real reason, why wasn't that the lead story, or why didn't that reason at least get posted a few minutes after the power outage?
I don't usually think Conspiracy Theories hold much water, but I'll be suspicious about this even if there eventaully is an offical announcemnt blaming Niagra.

Chicago chickin in, we are up and running. Any one suspicious near a power plant is a dead man.

This was what happened in a Superman movie with Chris Reeves. The villain took down the power grid. I think it was Jeckyl-Hyde Superman with Gene Hackman as one of the villains.

Umm, I may be wrong, but don't Nuclear Power plants....generate their own power???Yes, but they can't come on line unless there is a grid provided 60 Hz signal to sync to. Otherwise as plants came on line they could take each other out if out of phase.
The susyem works really well as long as it doesn't compleatly break...

Plus, hyper-nimbyism has created some areas that just cannot withstand any contingencies at all. New York may be such an area.
Lefties won't let anyone build a power plant of any kind, anywhere, of course.
