Umm, I may be wrong, but don't Nuclear Power plants....generate their own power???
Yes, but they can't come on line unless there is a grid provided 60 Hz signal to sync to. Otherwise as plants came on line they could take each other out if out of phase.
The susyem works really well as long as it doesn't compleatly break...
