Just got on line via your link #481 -- guess who's talking on MSNBC. NM Governor Richardson -- definitely acting like McCain, always ready to go in front of a mike on any subject. Grrrr.

They do not need to call every power plant. Haven't you read any of the posts of the people familiar with elctric generation and transmission?
To: lizma
Geez, all these posts in the time it took me to get home. I did see some airplanes that would have gone into Newark but I see that someone said they were redirected.

per FOX dayton, cinci, cleveland, akron, toledo out! So far Columbus is OK! Ahhh! Ahhh! I better turn off my lights so I can pretend the power is out!
Dayton is OK. I work about 25 miles south of Dayton and live just south of it. I just called home and my answering machine is on and the radio is talking about the NY power outage, not the Dayton one.
On the other hand, it does look like Cleveland and Toledo are out.

Kentucky reports city of Providence, Webster County in Western KY just went offline. This is the ONLY area in KY that's reported.
Note, Folks, this is WAY out of the affected zone, but we are still reporting it as a potential.
More as I get it...

Hillary on CNN: Once we get the power back on we're going to have to figure out why the provisions made so ensure this doesn't happen again has happened.
Ahhh, yes, let's leave it to Hillary to create a huge beaurocracy to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Yes, too bad that economics have taken precedence over reliability the last few years. I'm all for the free market, but when you are talking about something as vital as electricity, I still believe we need to make sure that the economics of the system do not put us in a precarious position.

"Phones still working. the phones still worked because they run off of dc and the offices that feed your phone line have huge banks of batteries as well as generator backup for situations like this"
We lost power AND phone service AND cell phone service about 4:15 south of Detroit. Got nothing but a weird busy signal (not the usual busy signal) for 20 minutes with both regular & cell phones. I thought someone took down the Sprint tower about a quartere mile from my house & that in turn took down phone & electrical lines. Not the case.
Any idea why we lost ALL power, regular, & cell phone service?
Regular phones work now, but cell phone circuits are overloaded & still no power, probably not til tomorrow at the earliest.
Local ABC & CBC from Windsor are both off the air.
