Who is going to succeed GW?

Posted on 05/29/2003 11:32:51 PM PDT by ampat

Right now, there isn't a Republican presidential candidate ready to run in 2008. We don't need anymore "its my turn" Bob Doles. O'Reilly thinks hillary is a shoe in because the Republicans don't have anyone who can beat her. Cheney needs a rest, John McCain was once a contender but he has been wishy washy lately. Anyone have any nominees?

Condi doesn't have the name recognition. Jeb would stand a better chance.

You're quite right. I can't believe how many Freepers are promoting people like Rice, Powell, Giuliani, and Ridge. For the GOP to nominate a pro-abortion candidate for President would be a HUGE mistake. There are many people in this country (myself included) who simply cannot, in good conscience, vote for anyone who defends abortion.

If the Republican candidate in 2008 is pro-abortion, millions of pro-lifers will stay home or vote third party. In addition, most of the GOP's volunteers and grassroots supporters are pro-life; if the nominee supports abortion, pro-lifers will have little reason to man the phone banks, go door-to-door, or donate money.

Besides, it's not as though there were a lack of qualified pro-life Republican governors and senators. I think Bill Owens and Rick Santorum would be formidable candidates.

Here's what happened: November, 1994- Two Bushes running for governor. The one from Florida was expected to win while the one in Texas was not. Apparently, the voters had other things in mind. If Jeb has beaten Lawton Chiles in 1994, might he be President today?

"I had heard rumours that Jeb was the original family pick to be groomed for politics. GW just (luckily) sort of stumbled into it at the right time."

That is correct. I have known Jeb Bush personally from long before he was Governor. I worked on his campaigns and we have several friends in common. HE was supposed to be the one being groomed for the White House, but then HE LOST the Governor's race to Lawton Chiles the first time he ran and GW won the Texas Governor's mansion. The mantle automatically shifted.

BTW, Jeb is FAR more conservative and I believe has more integrity than GW and I do love the Pres...but I will watch his stance on the 2nd Amendment closely; while I have no such concerns with Jeb!

You must have missed the interview O'Reilly gave to someone on another network. He thinks Hillary will run in 2008, and said he would LOVE to see Condi Rice run against her. He said Hillary would have no chance of beating Rice. Bill seemed very open about wanting to see Hillary get her can kicked. It is obvious he does not like her one bit. He was very warm on Rice and think she would be an excellent President. I agree with him. Although I may not agree with her on every issue, Condi would be an incredible President.

"You've gotta be kidding!!! Powell was against the first Gulf War, he was against this one, he is good at trying to appease all our enemies, that is NOT the kind of president we need."

I agree. Powell is a Republican ONLY because they were the party in POWER when he retired. He is a LIBERAL, being for affirmative action; for the UN (NWO/globalist); pro-abortion; very pro GUN CONTROL.....He'd be a nightmare!

I'd rather have Hillary. At least there we'd have some party unity and a chance to use the Constitutional rules which govern the Congress to our advantage to delay and delay some more until a more favorable solution can be found.

The "Reagan Democrat" more often than not, is the pro-life Democrat.

Are you aware that Reagan, when he was CA. gov., signed into law the most liberal abortion laws in the country?

If Hillary ever becomes President, we won't have to worry about another election as she will totally destroy this country as we know it.

Well said. Pro-lifers and religious conservatives are the heart and soul of the American Right, and it would be disastrous for the GOP to betray them.

Bob Casey was one of the few modern Democrats with a conscience. I think it's safe to say that the Democrats would never nominate anyone like him for President, since the feminazis dominate the party now.

Rice did not contribute to 9-11, that is not true and we need not spread that rumor.

Keyes lacks public likability, but is a great guy, I agree with you.

Hillary running would be great. Not only is that a poor candidate, but she would get a ton of other Republicans in other races elected.

It's a win/win
