LPGA player Annika Sorenstam will be teeing off shortly in a men's PGA event at the Colonial Country Club [the first time in 60 years this has happened]

Wrong, I don't view it as her failure, I view it as a deserving male pro's success, one who may need to money to feed his family.

ESPN: After her first bogey, Sorenstam went back to work, hitting another fairway off the tee. Her approach shot settled on the green pin-high about 20 feet from the cup. She ran her birdie attempt about 5 feet past the hole, but sank the next (hitting the left edge) for PAR.

The 6 footer was the only legitimate birdie opportunity; the putts at 12-15 feet are marginal at best. Anything over that would not normally be called a putt for birdie.

I disagree. And so do most golfers I know, including the announcers. If Tiger has a 15 footer you don't think that's concidered a birdie putt?

There is a difference between hating women and recognizing the difference between men and women. Here we have the hands-down best woman in the world playing flawlessly and struggling to make the cut. If you don't make the cut, you don't get payed. If she barely makes the cut on the easiest course for a woman to play in Tour, that will hardly be an incentive for other women to play. The LPGA will be just fine wether she makes the cut or not.

According to Tiger last week +3 isn't unheard of for the cut at this course.

Accoring to (my beloved and currently without power!) TV, it has been as low as Even and as high as +8 for the Colonial.

LOL, well she's giving a lot og good golfers a spanking and a lot of bad prognosticators an even worse spanking, including me.

But truth be known, I'm kinda enjoying mine. I'm an avid golfer and have a deep appreciation of what she is doing out there despite averaging 260 on her drives.

Well she made her birdie on a 15 footer and has come within inches on a few more of those marginal and big. Seems to be getting her range. I think of putts within inches as a lot like foul hits in baseball, it doesn't count as a hit but putting wood on the ball means you're starting to figure out the pitcher, when you see a few players in a row get a couple fouls each you know the team is getting his range and going to start abusing him soon. We'll see tomorrow how well my metaphor holds ;)

The projection at this point is like a batting average of a basebal player after three games. It's not very useful.

Not true at all. There is a ton of data to suggest that the cut will be at about 70. The guys in the clubhouse are actually the guys who were last in the draw. Most of the bigger names are still yet to tee off. The weather will not have changed and there doesn't seem to be much wind today. My guess is that the leader after today is going to be the guy who shoots a 63.

How do you view the seven men who are participating as exemptions from the sponser? Are they taking food off the table of seven more deserving players?

This isn't about "fairness" or those poor starving PGA men, this is about how a "girl" came to your playground and took her turn on the slide.

I said a 15-footer is marginal, meaning in my estimation a professional golfer will not often sink putts in that range. But certainly that's still considered a legitimate chance to make birdie. From what I've seen there aren't a lot of putts made in excess of 15 feet.
